If you reload a 9.3x57 would fit your concept perfecly.

Come to think of it, 8MM Mauser with 220's isn't bad either, just not as sexy to some.

MONTANAHILLBILLY For the short action go with the 9,3x57. Shoot 286grain bullets. Carry a sharp knife...you'll need it.

I have seen 9.3x57 in large gunstores so it can be ordered from Norma if necessary.

If you intend to reload consider the 375 2 1/4 Rimless Nitro Express (aka 9.5x56 or 9.5x57 Mannlicher Schoenauer). It uses .375 diameter bullets, so you can go from the 200 grain designs for the 375 Winchester all the way to the 350 grain Woodleighs. Cast bullets are readily available also, and would be fine for plinking loads or hunting. The 270 grain Hornady round nose or spire point does a great job for most game, and the 250 grain Swift A-Frame should be outstanding at this velocity. Brass is available from Bertram, but I prefer to reform any of the '06 family as it is generally more uniform (35 Whelen works great since it is closer to .375 diameter to start with). Original ballistics featured the 270 grain at 2100-2150. You should be able to improve a bit on this and still stay at reasonable pressure. Good luck with your project, Jim
