Hot Core,

I am not sure how the CRPF handles empties.

Hot Core:

3. 2.3"

3a. No

I think the Kimber 84 is a terrific rifle, and has unbeatable features and quality for a factory rifle. However, it does not feed, cycle at 100% from the factory, in my opinion. I've never seen one that did. If you want "Dangerous Game Performance" from one, you need to send it your favorite gun doctor...

Hello Hot Core. I'm over here in Roanoke Rapids suffering from Kimber fever. Been looking everywhere from green tops in Va. to the up coming G boro affair. Is there a stocking dealer around with more than one in stock? Just one at the Raleigh show last weekend. I can't even find a brochure, and their factory site isn't fully up. Have they got a 22-250 repeater? Any help might save a soul!!! ned

Hey Don, Thanks for the reply. Would you say it loads similar to the Winchester M70 "Controlled-Round/Push-Feed" they were talking about a year or so ago?

I suspect you are correct about WM's rifle being chambered for the 308Win by the bullets and powders he mentioned.

Thanks again.

I don't understand why the test is being done with empty cases? ...

Hey Don, Nothing tricky about the question. It is something I do with " my " rifles only to see how well they will push an empty from the magazine, past the beginning of the chamber and into battery. On the rifles I've got that feed empties smoothly, I've never experienced any kind of feed problems at all.

So, it doesn't mean a thing to anyone but me. No slam intended for any rifles that won't feed empties.

---

The question about the "Controlled Feed"(CF) is something I look at when handling one afield and don't always remember doing it. Kind of like putting keys into the ignition or moving the shift lever into gear.

I do notice a lot of folks seem to be quite adamant about having CF or nothing at all. Since I've had both, I seem to like the Push Feeds(PF) the best for " me ".

However, the stronger I see someone "defend" something, then the more curiousity I have about "Why!" they feel that way. If their logic is sound, I'm open minded enough to acknowledge a good/better thing.

I saw a couple of recent posts in another thread by a couple of guys who believe CF is the only way to go. Only problem I saw was it appeared to me they were actually talking about "Controlled Round/Push Feed"(CR/PF) rifles. Doesn't mater to me, cause I thought maybe they really were CF rifles and in my mind I had them goofed up.

---

What do you all see as a difference between a CF action and a CR/PF action? Is it only that the CR/PF never fully controls the cartridge on the way into battery?

And how far can the bolt move forward "without engaging the rim"(having complete control of the cartridge) and still be considered a CF? 1/2"? 1"?

Or, to put it into perspective, on a Dangerous Game Rifle, how far does the bolt move forward "without controlling the cartridge" before it is considered unfit for use on Dangerous Game and time to go to the GunSmith and get the Feed Rails adjusted?

Not trying to trick anyone at all, just curious how people view this Feed issue.

Hey G. ned ludd, Most every post I see about the Kimber rifles is extremely positive. I'm really interested in getting my hands on one long enough to look at it real close myself.

I used to do a good bit of business with Mark Clayton in Hillsboro, but I've heard he has gone out of business(maybe because he can't get into my billfold now ). He was a fine guy to swap with.

And I've done a good bit of trading with Ed's Gun Shop, 5560 US Hwy 1 N., Vass, NC 28394. They are just North of Southern Pines. Either Ed or Carlos is good to work with, but Ed generally finalizes the deals. (910) 692-7936 Nice Gun Shop and worth the drive from Charlotte to deal with him.

I just looked and that would be a good bit of a drive for you. If you play golf, you could make a weekend of it. But, if you do go, be sure to call first and see if they will be there. When they go to a Gun Show, the store is often closed.

Ed will try his best to locate what ever you want and they have always given me what I considered a "fair" trade for whatever I had.

Maybe one of these other guys will know if they make that rifle in 22-250.

Hey Trademark Texan, Thanks for the info. I'd appreciate your view on my last set of questions about "When" it is time "to send it your favorite gun doctor..." just as you said.

Do you feel it should just go to the GunSmith from the beginning, or wait until you have a few hundred cartridges through it?
