Sako 75 or 85 for me. You probably won't have to do much of what you mention for pretty damn fine accuracy IME.

I have a winchester 70, but I've never shot it. My 300 h+h keeps jumping in my hands!

My Sako M75 at 200yds: The only thing about Sako's is that they can be a little boring - all I did to this one was put a scope on it and shoot it. No pillar bedding, releiving the barrel channel, glass bedding and other fun gunsmithing. They just shoot great out of the box.........................DJ
....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

I bought the 300 Rum and 338 Rum And have no regrets. My 338 shoots the accubond bullets and the group it shoots is 1.5" at 200yds

| LH Rem 700 BDL's in 300 and 338 RUM were being sold on Gunbroker last year for $520. I picked up one in 300 RUM just to have something different and had it shipped straight to my gunsmith for checking over. I was thinking it would probably need to be re-barrelled. Here's what he wrote back after taking it to the range:
"Managed to get to the range today. Used the Remington ammo to get on paper and then shot a group with that and one with the Nosler Custom ammo. Remington shot just a tad over 1-1/4" group but the Nosler put all shots in the group just under 1/2". Both are 180 grain bullets. I don't see any need to change the barrel."
The rifle is still with the smith so I haven't shot it myself yet. But it seems like a pretty good buy, with plenty of room for options and upgrades for that starting price.

I have Brownings and a new Remington 700 CDL. At this point I don't have much use for Remingtons. I don't like smacking my hand on the scope when I worked the bolt, so I had a Badger tactical knob installed on it. I have had other issues with it too. My Browning A-Bolt 338 wm SS Stalker comes bedded and the barrel is free floated. The bolt has a 60 degree lift. I just looked at a Sako 85 yesterday and they have a bolt lift that won't ram your hand into the scope when you work it. I would go with the Browning or Sako.
