Thirty-odd years ago, after reading and rereading so many of the great books on African hunting, I decided that I had to have a .318 WR. I found a Vickers 318 from Thad Scott that I purchased and proceeded to work up loads for it. Ultimately, it went to Tanzania with me and performed quite well on plains game. This is a slender and quick little rifle and I was then hooked on English firearms. Roughly five years ago, I was looking on Cabela"s site and lo and behold, there was the sister rifle to mine, a carbon copy Vickers that was originally a .318, but had been rebored and rechambered to 35 Whelen. I sure wished it had not been rechamberd, but I bought it and it shoots nicely. I was looking through my copy of Cartridges of the World the other day and reread about the 350 Rigby, looked at the dimensions and the proverbial light went on and I realized that I could somewhat return this rifle to its British roots with a chamber reamer and some bolt face and feed rail work. The ballistics are not that different, but I think it would be a fun and worthwhile project. The chamber reamer is not a problem but brass is. My experience with Bertram brass was bad, and Quality Cartridge was excellent, but they are not in stock. I would like to get some brass before I start the project, for making dummies and checking feeding issues. I was wondering if anyone here has done this project and what problems they ran into and any advice on brass options. Thanks in advance for any feedback that will help ! Lee. Paul H, a moderator here, has done a lot of work converting his 35 Whelen Improved to a 350 Rigby. He has posted a lot of info on his conversion. Do a search using the Find button at the top.

I looked at this as an option on a Arg 1909 action. Action would have required some opening up to accommodate the cartridge and unfortunately I didn't wish to commit so many dollars to the project.. Cheers, Mark.

I talked to Quality Cartridge and he said he will probably make a run near the end of the year, Horneber is even harder to come by, can't find it in the U.S but good stuff! Huntingtons does not stock it. I will pick up a couple of 5 packs of Kynoch ammo to use for mock-up. I have read many of the back posts on the subject but there has not been too much hard info on feed rail alteration, but I'll figure that out when the ammo comes in. I almost think that this round could pick up a following again if there was a steady supply of brass available. After reading many of the old posts, I was hoping Paul H would chime in with some first hand advice. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

When did Huntingtons quit Horneber brass, been buying it for years from them, but have not needed them for the last few years...It seems they are cancelling a lot of good stuff that they have distributed or years..It all started with the lack of American factory brass and bullets, the primer and powder shortages that keep cropping up and the Obama administration.. Very sad as without Horneber the death of some fine calibers will follow like the 10.75x68 and several others.. I merely said that Huntingtons does not STOCK 350 Rigby, not that they do not still rep Horneber. I need some brass for mock-up rounds for evaluating action, rail and mag mods before I get started. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.
