When I ask a question about something, it is not necessarily because I need to know something right now for a current project, or even a future project for that matter. When it comes to firearms, I have an endlessly curious mind. However, I do happen to have a 98% condition Husqvarna FN 30-06 commercial 98 that is only drilled and tapped for a side mount receiver sight...

I still have the Silvers pad and the California English blank in my closet. They will be going out soon, I promise. I've been waiting for the metalwork to get finished up. The bolt stop fiasco, currently detailed in the Gunsmithing section, is keeping us in a holding pattern. Dan Pedersen is making me a 7mm Barrel patterned after an original 275 Rigby that was borrowed from the Wells family. Mike McCabe will start on that sometime after the 416 is done. My bucket list after that consists of a 257 Roberts scoped sporter on a Mexican action, 1930's Type "A" Commercial Oberndorf Mauser reproductions in 9.3x62 and 404 Jeff, Rigby style 375 H&H, a couple of custom Japanese Turnbull 1886's, and a couple of custom Hamilton Bowen old model Flattop Blackhawks. However, come to think of it, I might just scrap it all and start collecting stamps!

My Lyman 48 receiver sight with target knobs saw me through eleven weeks of hunting in Africa and never let me down. I never used the screw in insert except for sighting in purposes.

I have used cocking piece sights, but I prefer the receiver mounted ones. However, I have a long history of competetive target shooting with receiver sights.

I don't see all the to-do about all steel receiver sights..I can buy 3 Williams for the same money..

What I like about the Williams is curious hands like camp staff, dumb folks, can't play with it and ruin your hunt, and I have seen that happen too many times in the old days of Redfield and Lyman sights..

You can also afford to take two Williams sights on a hunt in case one goes bad for whatever reason. I have never broke one or had a mishap with any of them other than someone twisting those funny knobs. but I keep an extra in my bag.

Most of my guns are scoped with Talley QD mounts and I keep a sighted in talley slide on peep in my pocket in case the scope fails.
