I was wondering if any of you have used the Barnes 130 grn Triple shock in the 308. I'm curious as to accuracy and affect on game taken with them. I've tried the older Barnes bulletsand accuracy was less than stellar. Thanks for all opinions---1Longbow

Were you talking about the .308 sized bullet(30 cal) in 130 gr. or the 130 grain in a 308 caliber rifle? Confused

I have used the Barnes TXS bullets in my 300 wby (168 gr. match) and have experienced great accuracy.

I don't use barnes bullets but I have shot 130 gr Hornady bullets with my 30/06. At 200 yds the group was a hole 1"x3/4" for the 20 rounds

I have a 130 gr. XBT load, that goes sub-MOA,
in both my Savage Striker(.308 Win chambered
bolt action pistol), and my BAR LW Stalker,
in .308 Win. I don't recall the primer. It is
probably a CCI 200, but I know the load uses
a near max charge of W748 powder. A secret
to this load was I measured the chamber in
the Striker, and seated the bullet .050" off the
lands. That really tightened up the groups.
This seating depth is recommended as a
starting point, in the Barnes data books, and
it worked out to be the best for this load/firearm
combo. This same load just hppens to shoot
very well in the BAR as well.

As for on game preformance, well in the words
of my 80 year old Uncle that stopped by when
I was skinning a whitetail, shot with this load,
"Son, that is way too much gun for whitetails".
So far it has been a serious Bang Flop round.

I just recently started load development on
the 130 gr. TSX bullets, and from the first
batch of test groups, the accuracy is going to
match the sub MOA groups I fire with the
XBT's, and maybe with a few slight changes,
get a bit tighter. As for on game performance,
if it equals the XBT I will be very happy.
Supposedly, it is suppose to be better, but
I don't see how the penetration, and energy
transfer could improve much over the XBT's.

What I learned about XBT's is seat them .050"
off the lands, and drive them fast. In several
rifles(300 WSM, .25-06, and .308), this changed
MOA plus groups to sub MOA groups. The
"Go Fast" part helps them expand well once
they get on target. TSX bullets are suppose to be
even easier to get to shoot accurately, and are
suppose to be even more devastating on game.
From my early tests, the accuracy part is true.

1longbow I have used the 130 gr Hornady 30 cal bullet in a Sav 99 in 30-30. While the 130 is supposed to be a varmit bullet at the modest velocity a 30-30 can propel it it worked very well on several whitetail does. After that sucess my brother insisted on trying the same bullet in his 308 win. With the extra velocity possible in the 308 that bullet became a bomb.Terrible waste of meat.We will not do that again. Since the 130 gr TSX will stay together I would suggest it would be worth trying on deer. It should be great in a 308 or 30-06. If you are planning on using a 300 mag I think I would stay with the 150 gr.

I second Squeezes findings on the 130 with near max of 748. I was shooting the same load the other day with both the tsx and xlc and both shot real good. But I have a bar lightweight that seems to "like just about anything" and virtually all go to the same point of impact whether a 130, 150, or 165 grainer.

The TSXs shoot really good and a little faster than the X bullet. By cutting the rings around them they have reduced pressure and can load a little more powder for more speed.
I had a great season with them with 6 one shot kills on deer and using the 140TSX in my 7mm08. I have just finished loading a bunch with 120s that shoot really good also.
