| The .350 Rem Mag. is only equal or greater than a 35 Whelen with the 225 and lighter bullets, with 250's it offers no advantage. Getting one with a 22" barrel makes this only more true. Putting in a a long action would help but then you might as well have a 358 Norma Mag.
If you really want one you could always see how you like it and have the barrel cut and crowned at 22" for very little money. |

| Actually, if you can seat the bullets out a little, the 350 will slightly outperform the 35, more the equal of the 35 Whelen Ackley Improved. I don't think the animals will tell the difference tho'. - Dan |

| A simple matter to amputate the barrel 2 inches. |

| Years ago Ruger chambered the 350 Rem Mag in their 77 with a tang safety. I believe it had a 22" barrel and I saw one sold a couple years ago at a local shop for over $600. A rare caliber in 77 indeed. Alot of the barrels in the older 77's seemed to not be so accurate though. If Ruger is again offering this caliber in their new 77mkII it would be an excellent choice as they have gone to better barrels and have a controlled feed. Also the 77 short action is still longer than the 700 and would allow the heavier bullets to be seated out where they need to be. I think you'd be very pleased with this rig and if 24" is too long just have the front sight set back and lop off the 2" and have it recrowned. This may even add to the accuracy. Paul. |
