I have a 7mm RemMag Interarms which I am seriously considering having rebarrelled to 7x57. The length of the action is fine but I was wondering how much of a pain it would be with regards the bolt face?

cartridge face on the 7mm rem is .532 cartridge face on the 7mm is.473 I'm sureyou will need a new bolt, but there may be other issues also, like freebore, but they may be able to adjust that. sounds like you will have a few hundred in to it before youre done. Take the money from selling it and buy a 7x57 in a rem 700 or a 7mm-08 if you are looking for that class of cartridge.

I shimmed the bolt face on an 03A3 chambered for 300 Apex to 35 Whelen. I'd be more concerned with with if the rails are to wide to hold the 7x57 cases in the mag. Extreme Custom Gunsmithing LLC, ecg@wheatstate.com

Why do you want to change? Is it too much gun, too few cartridges in the magazine, or have you a warehouse full of cheap 7x57?

I would think your far better off leaving well enough alone . Simply purchase a 7X57mm as they are relatively inexpensive . Depending on the manufacturer of course . Seems counter productive to my way of thinking , messing a Mag up to go down the ladder so to speak . ??. BOL

yumpin yimmy... as they say in Minnesota.. I see you are from England...so I don't know if you hand load at all... but instead of doing all of this stuff, the cheap way to get 7 x 57 performance is to handload your 7 Mag ammo to 7 x 57 velocities.. an older aquaintance of mine locally had a 7 Mag his son bought that became too much recoil for him, especially after having a small stroke.. So what I did is just handload his ammo for him to have the MV of the 7 x 57 ( or 7/08)... instead of him having to buy a new rifle... just use a faster powder... what I loaded for him was 35 to 40 grains of IMR 4198, with 120 and 140 grain ballistic tips or similar bullet...he had taken deer with those loads, and also using the 140 grain Rem SP and took an elk using the 160 Speer.. with the 35 grains of IMR 4198... you can load that powder to even lighter loads safely... if you go lighter, try SR 4759 as a powder... as I understand in Europe, Lapua and V V powders has some data for lighter loads in their reload manuals... PM DUK, a fellow forum member from Germany, who could probably help you out a lot...if that is the route you choose... If you need load data using American Available powders, then drop me a PM.. just let me know what bullet weight you desire and what kind of MV you are looking for...should be able to set you up quite easily... I won´t comment on the technicalities of the conversion but I´m converting a 7x64 to a 7x57 just because I didn´t like the way the 7x64 handled. Buying a new gun in 7x57 wasn´t an option as I´m trying to cut back on gun spending.

currently the only manufacturer of 7x57 rifles that i can find is mauser. if you really want the x57 getting a 7-08 is probably the easiest way to go. the brass is easier to find or make also.

I think you can still get a ruger #1A in 7X57. Mine is excelent and if you don't mind a single shot you will love it, if it shoots half as good as mine. ...tj3006 freedom1st

Try telephoning around the good gunshops in Scotland. You'll find 7x57 is quite a common rifle. I think that Livens at Burton on Trent (Staffordshire, England) have a 7x57 BSA at £100!

I have a Winchester Model 70 Feather Weight 7x57 and is a lovely rifle to shoot. I have also seen factory Remington 700 CDL rifles that looked very nice. Assuming you don't have some gun ownership limit, I would think a 7x57 rifle in Europe would be very common and very cheap.
