Anyone know what load the sights on these are regulated for? I'm taking delivery of one in a few weeks and would like to get a headstart on the components and loads.

thx.

Most of those regulate for a 286 gr bullet at 2000-2100 fps or so. A lot of them have had the front sight changed to shoot lighter weights (you can get 320, 286, 270, 250 and 232 bullets; maybe more) so you may need to experiment. You might try to get one box of loaded Norma ammo to see where it prints. The ammo is high but it might be cheaper in the long run than trial and error.

IMR 4895 is popular in this case; 46-48 gr with 286 Privi-Partizan and 48-50 with the Speer 270 gr.

Pressures vary a bunch on these so start low and work up. You can seat pretty far out due to the magazine length and get some extra powder space to keep pressures lower, too.

This was not a high pressure round like the 358 Win.

It's my understanding too that they were regulated for the 286 grain bullet.

With the Speer 270 grain bullet and 48 grains of Win 748, velocity 2150 fps, mine shot just a tad to the left. A light tap on the rear sight brought it in line.
8x57 cases resize with one pass in Hornady dies. Use Imp neck sizing graphite for a smooth resize.
It's a very pleasant cartridge to shoot
Have some fun and let us know how you get on.

Thanks gents. Presumably these were regulated at 100 meters?

Anyway, I'll order up some 286's tonight and a set of dies.

Will let you know in a few weeks how thing go.

Okie John,
I've seen the dies from as little as $42.00 to a bit over $110 depending on whose & where. Seems Hornady is the least expensive and RCBS at the other end.

I'm wondering what the quality of Hornady dies is like. I've used primarily RCBS in the past.

I've got two sets of Hornady and no complaints. Almost any die set will load better ammo than one can shoot with a leaf rear sight.

The Hornady dies in 9.3x57 are perfectly adequate. They are not the most expensive but they have proved themselves to be good enough.
After all the 9.3 is not a target round. None the less my Husky has proved to be surprisingly accurate with Win 748.

If you want to read some interesting stuff on the x57 go to "Gunboards" and look at the Swedish civilian rifles. From there you can go to Petsons Place, which is one of the best pages on the net.
Have fun.

Thanks. I'd only seen the RCBS ones, but this could breathe new life into an old project.
