I was looking at a Sako rifle today, and don't know anything about the model. By the look of it, it is 3 lug action simlar to the M75 but perhaps more related to the Tikka. Can anybody tell me anything about it? The one I'm looking at is in .338 Win with a hard, splatter-painted fiberglass stock, in really good shape. The magazine seems much like the Tikka plastic one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.... Thanks, Dan

Sounds like a Sako TRG-S. I had one once. They have a lot of inherent problems that the regular model 75's do not. MHO knows a lot about that, something about the recoil lug. I sold mine to a friend and it is a consistant 2" shooter, no better. That one is a 300 win mag. ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

The links show the same animal I was looking at. Does the price reflect an inferior reputation to the other sako products? Again, thanks for the help and advice.... Dan

Yes, IMO. Much like the Tikka is inferior to the full blown Sako line. Matter of fact, the M 995 reminds me of a Tikka in many ways. Although most Tikka's will really shoot.

Run away quickly. The stock has a metal stud molded into it that projects up into a recess in the barrel collar, rather than a recoil lug on the barrel mating with a recess in the stock. The stock material is of alien origin. I had one in 338, poor groups, kicked like a mule and the barrel seemed to foul badly. Perhaps I got a bad one, dumped it and moved on.

Head Trauma-- Thanks for the insight. This one is in 338 and basically unused....but just didn't feel right when I saw it. Didn't know what to think...and didn't think to drop the action out of the stock. Guess that's why I asked! Dan

In there heyday, they weren't that expensive. Dealer price on a TRGS in STW only cost me about $450 or so.They aren't worth anything close to what those auctions are asking. I believe the Warbird caliber guns were around $700-$800. Elite Archery and High Country dealer.
