This is my first "magnum" rifle and I did a lot of reading about the recoil etc ahead of time and I must admit I was a little concerned. I knew I could roll with it when shooting offhand but I was a little more worried about getting her sighted in off the bench. I brought about 50 rounds, 10 150 grainers, 10 165 grainers, 10 180 grainers, and 10 220 grainers. I started with the 150 grainers to break myself in. I eased in behind the rifle and placed some foam between the rifle and my should "just in case". I was a little jumpy at first but after I fired the first shot I quickly thought, "that ain't so bad"! I got braver and slowly worked my way all the way through the rounds and even shot the 220s. I went back today and repeated the process. The rifle is a real pleasure to shoot and the most accurate rifle I have ever shot. I have absolutley no cheek slap and the recoil was probably 25% of what I feared it would be. I have a light weight 30-06 with a 20" barrel and hard recoil pad that kicks worse. The 300 wby makes more noise and moves around a bit more but nothing bad. I also got some nice compliments and questions at the range which is always nice!

Geoff, glad you like your new rig and it performed up to snuff. It's definitely good to be a handloader when your shooting those Weatherby mag cartridges! What scope did you end up with on her?

I put the Swarovski 3-10 on her. No busted up eyebrows either! I shot about 20 rounds of 180 Barnes TSX grain wby that I loaded with 4350 that shot well but I want to get some other powders to try. These 202s really are great rifles.
