Federal loads the Barnes Triple Shocks (my new love) for the .308 Win in 150 grain and 165 grain. Which grain bullet would be the better choice as an all around hunting bullet? Thanks for your opinion. "Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars."

If they are close accuracy wise,I would choose the 165gr.

me too. The 165/168 is the ONLY bullet I like most in .308 Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

The Barnes bullet users I know like to go with high velocity, so I would try the 150 grain as you can shoot it faster. I used 180 grain premium bullets in the .308 for years, now I am shooting 165s. One of these years I will have enough comparative data to drop down to 150. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

Whichever is most accurate in your rifle. With a TSX, I doubt any game animal will know the difference. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Sounds like you want to use factory ammo and between the 150 and 165 I don't see much difference; whichever your gun likes the most. I know I'm in a small minority but I have become a big fan of the 130 gr .308 Barnes bullets. I started with the 130 boat-tail X moly coated and now the TSX. I shoot it in 308, 30-06 and 300 Win Mag. Like larrys says, the critters can't tell any difference. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

For best all around performance, I would have to vote for a 165 - 168 grain bullet. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

While they are not Barnes, I shoot the 150gr Accubond in my Remington PSS 308 and like them very well. From 150s all the way to 180s, shoot what your rifle finds most accurate. Accuracy kills. High velocity numbers impress friends and forums. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

I have shot a lot of game over the years with the 308. It is one of my favorite cartridges. I have used 150,165, 168, and 180 grain bullets. I have used more different 165 grain bullets than the others. For deer sized game, 150 or 165. For bigger than deer, I like the 180's. I used a 180 Woodleigh in my single shot Blaser K 95 for black bear. For all round use the Barnes X in 165 would be hard to beat. The 165 gr Federal Trophy Bonded Bearclaw is also a great bullet. I have had no problems with the 150 gn hornady interbonds at 2890 fps.20 deer this season. The difference between 150 and 165 is marginal. If you want to go up to 180 gn you gain some stoping power but lose the flat shooting in the 308. The smaller premium bullets may give you an edge on distance. Here is a pic of three interbonds which passed through a 12 " seasoned pine log across the grain at 110 yds.
