Can anyone tell me what year ruger started making there own barrels? i called customer service and they just said early ninties, i have one made in 94 and want to know if it was a ruger barrel or contracted out. thanks | ||

If I remember right it was in 1992 but just exactly when/what month I don't know. The only time Ruger had a problem with the contract barrels was early in the manufacturing of the M77(the late 1960's) so don't worry about the quality of the barrel you have got. Lawdog | |||

When Ruger first started making/using their own barrels, they had some problems with quality control...just like Remington & Winchester both did when they were first learning to make their own hammer-forged barrels. Once past that, though, Ruger barrels are equal to any other major factory's products. Likewise, some of the Ruger "bought by bid" barrels are poor, but some are very good indeed. The bottom line in judging the quality of any barrel is not who made it, but how well does your specific barrel shoot?..... My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still. | |||
