Anschutz now makes the 1780, a bigger centerfire rifle in calibers up to 9.3x62. I have an Anschutz rimfire rifle and the quality and accuracy are world class. So has anyone here tried the centerfire 1780? What do you think of it? Pros and cons, and any comments are highly appreciated. Thanks

No, thank YOU, Adrian. I didn't know that new Anschutz even existed. Now I will be very interested in getting info about it, especially availability. chamberings, and price. Do you know what kind of an action it has, or any other useful details? (Magazine type, magazine capacity, sights, barrel length, one or two piece stock, intended use, etc.?)

Well, I went and looked at the factory website and answered some of my own questions. I found several positives, and one very negative aspect. I like the following about it: - turning bolt. - single stage trigger initially set by factory at 2.64 pound pull, double set trigger available - total weight without scope is just barely over 7 pounds. - four types of stock available; classic walnut, monte carlo walnut, European sporting style walnut, and thumbhole walnut. - chamberings include .223, .308, .30-06, 8x57, and 9.3x62, among others. - available with or without sights on the barrel - removable, separate, magazine The one thing I immediately didn't like is that it obviously isn't made for carrying comfortably a long way on a stalk. The detachable magazine sticks a l o o o n g way below the stock, right at the balance point. Sure hope somone out there who has one (or has used one) will tell us about his impressions and it's practical accuracy in the field. A few more things I'd really like to know... - kind of extractor? - how barrel is attached to receiver? - type of rifling? - is buttplate QD?

Thanks for your input. Good observation about the magazine. They have 4 stock shapes and one or two hide the magazine better, but not fully. My 22lr is more accurate than you'd believe. I hope we'll get feedback from actual users of the centerfire soon.

I have looked at these, and was excited to see them. Until I saw the price. To me they look like an honest 1700.00 to 2000.00 rifle, however the MAP is something like 3495.00. I will bet they are accurate, but they are a bit blah looking, and utilitarian, and a touch clubby feeling . If I am going to give 3495.00 for a rifle that will shoot, I will pay a bit more, and get a pretty rifle that will shoot. A new Sako is a lot better value, or step up a bit, for a Blaser, or a Sauer.

I wouldn't even consider one at that price! I must have misread the price when I went to the German website...I thought they were listing at something like 1,400 DM. I don't know what a DM is exchanging for today, but the last time I bought any they were like 4 to the dollar. Even at 1-to-1 for the dollar, that is a hell of a markup for the importer....especially when a person can get a Form 6 and import one himself for his own personal use.

They look suspiciously like a Sauer 202.
