This week I went to the range to FINALLY sight in my CZ550 9.3x62 that I have had for almost a year. I brought with me 20 rounds I loaded myself (270 grain Speer, 56 grains IMR4064, Norma cases, Winchester LR primers), and proceeded to sight in. My home bore sighting job (Leupold 1.5x to 5x) was so bad that it took me 6 rounds to get on the paper at 50 yards. Finally, by the 12th round, I had the rifle dead on at 50, and after a short break consisting of firing my Anshutz 22, I fired 3 more rounds for group size. The result was a clover leaf, still at 50 yards. Considering this rifle is stock out of the box (trigger as is, CZ scope mounts), and this was the first load I tried in the rifle, I am happy with the results. Recoil was not bad, and it certainly did not prohibit me from shooting 3 rounds of skeet with my 12 gauge BPS an hour later. Now I need to load some more rounds and head back to the range to see how it will do at 100 yards...

I have the lux 9.3x62 and have a 2-7 leupold in warne fixed mounts on top. I to am using the speer 270 gr bullet at and am getting good accuracy with 56 grains of AR2208 (Aussie powder) wlr primer and lapua case.
The speer 270 gr kill hoppers like the hammer of thor as well, and I reckon they would work well on your deer or black bears and pigs.
I would be getting between 2300-2400 fps wih my loads.
I looked at using the 250 gr Nos BT but I just could not stand having a plastic tipped projectile on such a cool, historic cartridge....it would be blasphemy
I reckon you have a better choice of scope on yours as well, a 1-4 or 1.5-5 such as you have would be much better than my 2-7 I think.

PC I have tried the nosler bt in my rifle they shoot well but so far the most accurate load has been the 232gr norma vulkan's with 60 gr of 2208 in reformed 30/06 cases(still waiting for my lapua's) I have shot a group that measures .635" at 100 so i think the load has some potenial I am going out to the range today with the chrony to see what sort of speeds i am getting as well as trying for some more nice groups i still have the 4x32mm meopta on my rifle and am very pleased with it i can make out hole on paper at 100 so there is nothing wrong with the optics i haven't had a chance to try mine out in the field yet our last trip was cancelled must plan another one

I know it's blasphemy, but try 60 gr. H414 with the 250 gr. Nosler at 3.330" OAL (if you enough throat), a GM210M primer, and Norma brass. Five shot groups are usually in the 0.75" range using a 1.4-4.5x scope. No pressure signs in my rifles.
SMLE I whopped some grassy's the other week and the 270 gr speers kill them like the hammer of thor I have loaded 56 gr of AR2208 in the lapua case with a WLR spark. I think I would only be getting about 2300 fps. Recoil is pleasant.

SMLE if your getting 2200 fps with the speer and 51 gr of AR2208 with 56 gr in my 23 1/2" barrelled CZ behind the 270 speer what velocity do you think I would be getting ??
I will be interested to hear how you do with the 250 gr BT's Noslers.
What 6.5x55 are you shooting ?? I have a M38 1942 Husquvarna carbine in 6.5x55 the shooters warehouse has 129 gr Hollowpoints for 25 per 100 if your interested.

PC I have 3 6.5's a '43 husky that is close as you'll get to unfired a '07 M96 and a '17 M96 sporter with the black synthetic stock (both Carl Gustavs) what make are the 129gr bullets? I would guess you would be getting around 2400fps with 56gr 2208? I should have mentioned that those loads of mine were in necked up 30/06 brass trimmed to 2.480" after fire forming they shrunk back to 2.440" maybe the long case and reduced capacity could explain the velocity? I will load some up with 56gr and when i get a chance I will chrony them and let you know might be a couple of weeks though the chrony belongs to a club and it can be hard to track down

smlekid, if you can get it, order W-W 6.5X55 brass(or get it from some other source) The 06 brass works, but is something on the order of .010" smaller in the base area. This will not only shorten case life, but cuts into the safety margin.
The 6.5 is to my knowledge anyway, the only "oddball" sized case in the Mauser family. They used the larger case to help hold pressures down.
If it is available down under, get the old "gallery" ammo. It is good brass already primed and ready to go. Pull the bb cap, salvage the powder, recharge with your favorite powder and bullet, and voila, you have fire&forget ammo.

PackRat the reformed cases are for my 9.3 (waiting on my lapua brass from the States) I only ever use 6.5x55 brass in my rifles I load heaps of the Norma berden primed stuff it is excellent brass I used to use PMC but gave up on it i got sick of having to trim after each load (and i was only neck sizing i keep brass separate for different rifles) I have used some Winchester brass but a lot of shooters in my area had problems with split cases on first firing (loaded factory ammo) I would like to try some Remington brass and in Oz there is some new cases made by nny in Yugosalvia? (they used to be!!!) that in my experience is also excellent brass (in .303 any way)

Big Iron a grassy is just a nick name for a Kangaroo, I though as much about the speer being good for small deer as the speer 270 gr 9.3 is an ideal grassy bullet.
