I recently say a Sig 30-06 that the barrel had been blown out of the action. I did not realize that the barrel had no threads on it, but was a press-fit in the action, and held with a set screw. The reason it parted is not knowm but it sure made an interesting mess of the bolt face, and stock. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

If it's a SHR-970 the bolt locks up into the barrel. The barrel isn't even held in by a set screw it's clamped in by two bolts around the receiver. They did this so you could swap barrels etc.. I bet someone used a wrong bolt and/or wrong caliber when switching stuff around.................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

Nothing had been switched around. Sorry I can't post photo as I did not think to take a picture of it. It was in a gun shop in RSA. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.
