Well, the last thing I ever expected to do was put a scope on my Remington 1917. It has a nice Redfield peep sight set up that shoots great. But then my uncle sent me some "junk" he never uses. In it was a Lyman Super Target Spot 25X. Having no Winchester 52 in my safe I thought why not put a 1950s scope on a 1950s style sporter? I put together a somewhat lighter load of 56.5 grains of H4831 under a 180 gr. HDY Natl. Match bullet. Was definitely worried about the eye relief on this thing -- there isn't much! I was a bit nervous the first time I squeezed the trigger, but the scope slides well under recoil so it wasn't bad, although it did tap my glasses a couple times. Took me forever to boresight and had to go to the 25 yd. range to get it dialed in but I ended the day with a nice 3 shot group at 100 yds. The group circled was me wandering down and around to figure out how to dial these Lyman gadgets in... Next trip I'm going to work on 5 shot groups and maybe hit the 200 yd. range. Can't say it's the most practical set-up, but I was happy with the performance of my old $230 pawn shop rig. Pistol shooting today... not so great... it was cold, muddy, windy and after shooting 30 rds. of 30-06 I was shakin' like a leaf! [/IMG] [/IMG]

That is just too dang cool.. (When I was a kid my father used to tell me that God hated a coward, I finally realized he has even less use for a fool.)
