Got the M70 out to the range with some handloads. 140HPBT Sierra, H-414 - 49gr. 3/4" 4 shot groups till I pulled the 5th :-) This rifle seems to like it on the hot side.

richj...do you know what velocity that load is running at? I am getting great accuracy in mine with 140gr bullets and 48gr of WC852 Milsurp powder which is basically H414 but a bit slower... Z

Your a grain over normal max in most rifles so your a tad warm, but safe I'm sure... My take on the 7x57 is to open up the throat so you can seat bullets way out, and take the block out of the model 70 to give yourself a 30-06 length action, then use H414, and you can use a lot more of that powder and duplicate the 257 Ackley balistics or the .280 Remington with that modification and that particular powder...I wish I could find some H414 locally, were getting a lot of powder in our stores now, so its loosening up I guess...H414, RL-15 and Rl-22 is the only ones not on the counters that I would like to have.. I loaded these to Quickload oal (3.071) not the sierra book (2.975). The QL OAL matches the throat of the rifle. I never did get back to the range with the chrono. Rich
