Alf, sorry to pester you, but you are the only person on AR's forums who ever seemed to know the answer to this... I have an S&L free rifle in .30-06 which I had always thought was a Model 54, except that instead of ejecting fired brass, it would stand it straight up in the loading port, which is at dead-center 12 o'clock. I believe it was you who told me it is something earlier than a model 54. I have used the search function here trying to find that info again, to no avail. Can you please identify it for me again? Thanks in advance for your time and effort. AC My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

S&L Model 52: Does it have a 5 shot cap magazine well ? The non ejection modification as specifically done so that the shooter can manually remove each case when fired.

No, it is a single shot free rifle, and I'm certain you are correct about why it does that. I have found it very handy in my shooting. (And zero total of lost match brass.) My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

AC: If it's a Single shot in 30-06 then you more than likely have a M54 Match The M52 was made in 30-06 but had a 5 shot magazine without clip loading ability The 54M ( match) was a single shot. They were apparently not that common in 30-06 whilst the 52 was mostly produced in 30-06.
