I've decided a really want a CZ 550FS- the only question is whether to get it in .308 or 30-06. For some reason, I tend to equate the shorter barrel carbines with the .308, but I'm not sure I like the detachable magazine that the CZ .308 comes with (I prefer the looks and feel of a floorplate, although I will concede that the detachable magazine has its advantages). Not being able to look one over locally, how "solidly" is the CZ detachable built? Does it lock up tight, or does it rattle? Or, should I just go with the 30-06 and a floorplate (now I worry about more muzzle blast!). Any thoughts from those with experience with these rifles? Thanks.

Jeff, Get the 30-06, it`s what you want! CZ does not make a true medium action !! The (clip) acts as a spacer, from long to medium ! 30-06 works fine in a 20" carbine ! Get what you want! Ed,

Jeff, the 9.3 recoil is fine mate, if you wanted you could start with a mild load using the Norma 232 gr oryx bullets running them at about 2400-2500 fps and you will not have much more recoil tahn a 30/06, as you progress you could work your way to a 320 gr woodleigh at about 2300 fps Check out the .338 win mag thread in medium bores I have listed some companies which makes products for reloading the 9.3x62. I do not think that the 9.3 compnents are that scarce there is a number of co's making products for a little variation.

I have the 308 FS and really like it. Shot feral hog 167yds distant last month. Mine shoots GI Ball and Remington Corelokt into groups of less than an inch. Have Leupold 6x on it. Have about decided I could manage with this and my CZ Varmint since both shoot GI ball real tight. I believe you will fall in love once you try it. Good Luck

Jeff, I have a CZ 550 Varmint in .308. The detachable mag is tight and does not rattle.
