Anyone using one of these rifles? My broken leg has me looking at a lot of rifles these days and this one has caught my eye. I've read most shoot very well, but there have been some issues with Forbes CS when a rifle needed repair. Then I also read an online review from F&S where the author tested a .270 Win and his comments was it shot very well, but the Shaw barrel fouled quickly. Is this something other owners of the Forbes Rifles have noticed as well?

If you handload, try some of the ant-copper fouling powders. I've recently tried IMR-4451 in place of H4350 in 257 Roberts and 7x57, and CFE 223 in place of Varget in 308. The hotter your loads the better it seems to work. None of my barrels were real bad foulers to start with, but each barrel is 5 to 10 minutes now instead of 20, and patches used to never come out completely clean, where now they do. I don't have a bore scope, but my barrels are clean now.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

I recently acquired a 20B in 260 Rem. I've only put 30 rounds down the pipe. 10 were factory Remington loads which were dirty burners. Other than being sooty, the barrel cleaned normally (like a factory barrel). I also loaded 20 rounds with IMR 4350 to work up a load. Again, the barrel cleaned normally.

I saw no degradation of accuracy during these strings of shots.

The local gun shop has 4 or 5

Very thin and trim.....almost petite/tiny

They make a Kimber 84M Montana seem chunky or big

I cycled the bolt and it is extremely sloppy and would bind in the extreme rear if any up force whatsoever was aplied

I didn't like the sharp crisp lines and edges on the stock as I have found in time they won't hold paint and this rifle has a lot of them

Thanks! I won't be buying anything like a Forbes rifle while I'm laid up and on disability. When I return to work it'll probably take a while to get caught back up. So it's all wishful thinking, but it's fun to dream about these things.

The funky finish (something or other nitride) on the bolts takes some cycling to smooth out. However, once it smooths out its really smooth. The stocks seem rough, but they are only made to be strong, not elegant. I am not a fan of ultra light rifles, but I admire the the tech that went into their developement. I wouldn't mind them if fitted with a 24" #2 barrel.
