A friend of mine has a collection of lever actions going and some one has offered him a 33Win. 1886.
He didn't even know if it existed or not and gave me call.
Hornady was the only manual to have a load for this so I assumed they would have dies. I checked their site and I was right but when I checked to see if they provided brass for this round the page wouldn't load.
Does anyone out there load for this gun?
Where can I get brass?
I know this rifle was only produced between 1902 and 1940 so is it worth anything as a collector piece?
I'm just wondering if it's worth him buying it after the cost of specialty dies and custom brass ect...?
Any input would sure help.
Thanks

Brass for the .33Win. can be made from 45/70
40/65Win. or 38/56Win.brass.If using 45/70 it is better to size in a 40/65 or 38/56 die before
sizing in the 33Win.die.Trim to length and load.
Neck thickness should be ok but it is better to check it.

I have one and its a nice round,Old West Scrounger can suply loaded ammo, and you can find brass at Buffaloe Brothers its best like wildcatsaid take it down first in the 40-65 followed by 38-56 than 33 haven't loss one round yet,Have used Hornaday and Hawk bullets and have great resluts.

The .33 Winchester is a good cartridge. Like it is stated above, you can form the .33 brass from .45-70 cases, which I have done. Now that Starline carries .40-65 brass I will probably use it instead.
I first run the .45-70 cases into a .38-56 sizing dies, then into the .33 Winchester sizing die. The trim. I lose about one or two cases out of twenty if I do not go slowly into the .38-56 die.
Cases last along time so there is no need to be forming cases every month.
Like you found out, Hornady lists loading data. You can also find some data in older Lyman manuals. I believe there is loading data in the P.O. Ackley manuals also.
I have had my best accuracy with H4831 in the .33 Winchester. Not a fast load but accurate.

I just size them right down from 45-70 brass. No problem.

Hornady makes a 200 gr flat point which is perfect for that cartridge.

The 1886's are a desirable collectors item. I have had them and don't want them but they are a work of art.
