During the late 40s or early 50s the National Rifleman had and article about a rifle named Smorgasborg that depicted the exploits of a 6.5X55 that some guy was using with great success in Western USA. This is a spin off of the effectiveness of the 7x57. OK . What is thought of the effectiveness of the 6.5x55 as an overall cartridge after 113 years in use? roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Well my 6.5x55 has really killed quite a bit paper in the last 2 weeks. Got some great groups with Re22 and 140gr bullets. Unfortunately I cannot drive the required 6 hours to where my deer draws are to see how these loads would have worked on flesh and blood. FS

i think it follows as a very close second, only by the fact that the 7mm is a little more known (outside the gun world) and will/can throw a little heavier bullet at bigger animals. all other factors, loader freindliness, efectivenss on commonly shot game size, etc., you couldn't stick a butterknife between 'em.

Having used the 6.5x55 a lot and it worked well on many game animals I decided to build a 7x57 as with it I could get the 160 grain bullets going as fast as the 6.5 could push the 140's. Add to this the easier to get and cheaper to buy 7MM bullets and it was a win win deal. It was the 400 pound plus feral hogs on my lease that made this decision for me. I doubt the Scandinavians sneak around in the dark killing big nasty feral hogs. Leftists are intellectually vacant, but there is no greater pleasure than tormenting the irrational.

My 6.5x55 seems to work well enough on critters. Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

So what bullets do you "Sneaky Scandinavians" use on those 3X large pigglets? Just bought a 6.5X55 myself and plan to use it on small Moose (2pt.) and medium Elk.. The bullets you use on Boar should do the trick.. Thanks

155gr Lapua Mega and 156gr Norma Oryx seems to be THE moose bullets.

smörgåsbord (smorgasbord) 6,5*55 work well on moose but bigger cartridges has become more popular as 308, 3006 and the old 8*57,9,3*62, 9,3*57 are more popular now then we have bear and boar. About 40000 mooses are being shot with 6,5*55 every year. I use a 308w or a combi in 6,5*55/12*2 3/4. The most popular calibers in sweden are:6,5*55,308w,3006,222r,9,3*62 and 8*57is.
