Are these rifles available in the states in the 9.3x66 Sako? Also I've read that Sako no longer makes rifles with the key lock. Are they putting the "Warning read instruction book" on the barrel instead? I just got off the Sako site and the hunter model looks nice!! Sendero300>>>===TerryP

Terry, New member old topic of a few months ago. I asked a simular question. Don't beleive anyone mentioned seeing a gun and loaded ammo may only be available in Canada on this side of the Atlantic. Even if you went to the bother of having a gun barreled to the 9.3x66 it doesn't look as if there will ever be brass. Possably a 9.3x62 may be a second choise but available. I ended up buying an older 9.3x62 Husky.

Carne, Thanks...I'll do a search for the topic. Not really a new member (I just don't post here alot).. Looks like this cartridge died before it got started?? My interest in the Sako rifles is a little renewed after I found out they dropped the key lock....not trying to bash anyones rifle that has it but just another part that's not needed IMHO. I like the picture of the hunter model with sights on the Sako website. Terry Sendero300>>>===TerryP

Just FYI for those that may not be familiar with this cartridge. -Bob F. http://www.sako.fi/ (For the velocities, multiply meters per second (m/s) by 3.28088 to get feet per second.) "Cartridge released by Sako in 2002-03 as a powerful new hunting round. It has the same head size as the 9.3x62 Mauser and was designed to be the maximum sized cartridge to fit into a standard sized .30-06 action without alterations. The case dimensions are similar to the 9.3x62 Mauser except it is stretched 4mm in length in the body section, no other changes otherwise." from: http://www.reloadersnest.com/frontpage.asp?CaliberID=344

Nice Cartridge But why make a 9.3x66 ? It's slower then the old 9.3x64 and at best it duplicate the 9.3x64 Brenneke -------------------- 9.3x64 Brenneke http://www.geocities.com/bw_99835/93mm.htm The load's listed on the above site are the one's i have used for year's SAKO went a long way to remake the 9.3x64 Thank's for the look guy's

Hi, yes it resembles the 9.3x64 in ballistics. But it's one great difference, it will fit a standard 30-06 bolt head. Nice if you want to alter a standard rifle to magnum power. (Like a Weatherby Ultra Lightweight in 308/30-06)

The 9,3x64 is a great round but it's actually a lot easier to make a 9,3x66. The 9,3x64 requires a non-standard bolt face and might even have required a different action size for Sako since the case is quite a bit wider than a 30-06 diameter case. With the 9,3x66 it was just a matter of screwing a 9,3 barrel onto an -06 action and chambering it. Brass should be easy to make for the 9,3x66 where-as it's near impossible for the 9,3x64. As big of a 9,3 fan as I am I just hope that Sako will import some of them..............DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

DJ, I have a reamer . Turn an older 30-06 length caliber Sako rifle into a 9,3x66. The pre-model 75 rifles have a longer magazine box to take advantage of the extra powder room. Charlie
