Hi all, Well with some of the recent talk of the Sako rifles I have a couple questions. ( I just bought a Sako AV in 375H&H - fiberclass I think - see big bores for questions on that rifle) The same store has a "used" AIII in 30.06. It is blued with a wood stock. The stock is a classic style with a cheek piece. The rifle is almost 100% - no bluing wear, no sign of optics being mounted, bolt looks fresh as ever. The rifle would be a perfect companion to my H&H. The wood stock is the only thing that is a little weird. It almost looks like it was in a gun cabinet that the sun would beat down on. There is an area on one side that is drastically lighter than the rest of the wood. It doesn't have any real dings or anything just a funny look. What would be a reasonable price for a minty AIII in .06?? They seem a little high to me at $895.00. They don't seem to want to budge much - maybe tax and dros - so $895 out the door. Would it be "worth it"? What kind of Rings / bases would you use? With the prices of new rifles an all steel - "high quality gun" - for a bit less - or same - seems almost reasonable. Any help appreciated, SC

StoneCold, it is a fine rifle and the price is OK. If it is 'minty' condition, then I'd just buy it and get on with it. It's been a while, but I've seen them in great condition for 700 or so, but not really 'Mint' so I think I would offer 825 out the door and be willing to go higher if I really liked the rig. Good luck!

There were 2 different models of the classic, if it forend has wrap around checkering & the grip has a rose wood cap the rifle is worth the asking price, if it has panel checkering on the front it's a $600-700 rifle. The 1st has a real oil finish & your stain problem could be corrected at minimal cost.

Thanks guys, The forend has very good checkering around the forend. It also looks like an oil finish - it isn't glossy at all. I don't remember if the grip had a rosewood tip or not though. I am pondering the purchase.... I have read through various search engines that people like just about every mount system out there. I think that will be even tougher to decide. Preferences here???? StoneCold, the others are correct. If it's an actual classic, the price is good. If it's the standard Finnbear, you may want to shop around. Start at www.gunsamerica.com. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member
