Don't write off the Whelen. I built one with a magnum contour 24" stainless tube on a 700 action in an HS Sporter stock with a 3-9X Leupold in Dual Dovetails. It will push the 225 Partition to over 2700 and shoots an inch regularly. Last time I had it at the range I fired 3 shot groups at 100,200 and 300 meters. The 100M group was exactly one inch and 3" high, the 200M group was 2.10" and right on for elevation. The 300M group was 3-1/4" and about 10" below point of aim, if that's not flat shooting enough for 99% of the game taken I don't know what is...It's highly under-rated cartridge. Most people who've never owned one think it's a short range "brush" cartridge..not so. It has nearly identical trajectories to a 30-06, with the 165gr .308 comparing to a 225gr 358 and the 180gr 308 comparing to the 250gr 358.

They are all nice calibers and all in the same action and weight of rifle...there is no doubt the .338 tops them all as it holds more powder, and the big dog sleeps on the poarch...but which one you choose is up to you and power is not always an issue..I have use all three and I can't complain on any of them.

Ray,

All you ever do is gab up the .338 and or the 9.3x62. I just don't take you seriously anymore. I was born and raised in N. Idaho and taking game witht he 35 Whelen back in 1965 when it was still a true wild cat and people were predicting its demise to the new magnums.

Bunch of crap. The Whelen will still be around long after both of us are dead.

Rich,

I think the images are in your browser cache. Also, I think they are posted to an MSN Passport account. When I try to view the photo, by right clicking on the link, I get asked for a MSN Passport login and password. I suspect you're the only one can that view the images.

Just trying to be helpful,

Rich, go to http://www.photobucket.com

Set up a free account.

You upload the photos from your computer.

Then you just "highlight, click and drag" the IMG address into your post (gotta have AR open and Photobucket).

Just go to http://www.photobucket.com/ and create an account. (Use the Join Now! link at the upper left on the screen.) It's free. Instructions on how to use it should be on the web site.

I like my Ruger in 35 Whelen. Smacked my bear at 40yds with it a couple of years ago.

Hmmm...may need to smack a pig with it this year.
