Has anyone here used 9.3x62 PVI Partizan 286gr on Elk or other 350 pound to 1000 pound big game? How did it perform for you? Would you trust it to get to the heart and lungs on a difficult rear quartering shot?

Jack, My FIL uses a 9.3 and had a bunch of those. Unfortunately, he loaded a 270 gr speer for his Oryx hunt in NM and I think they were too soft. At any rate, I believe those are a fairly tame loading so at reasonable shooting distances I'd imagine they'd be adequate. Of course, you could always shoot them off as practice and reload with a NP or NF as they say that PRVI brass is excellent! Good Luck. Jeff

I used the PP 285s to work-up reloads for my 9,3x62. They were 25% of the cost of the 286 NPTs and in the end all I needed was to replace one bullet with the other in the same load recipes. I chronoed the same velocity and didn't see any different pressure signs. I did not shoot any game the size your refering to with the 285 PPs, because all I ever read about them was that they were very soft - "A deer bullet only". I have shot both big deer and big hogs with the 286 NPTs. I have not found the beast that can stop or even turn these partitions! So far they make a bullet size entrance hole and a 1 1/2" exit hole straight through no matter what the angle or what they hit in between. As matter of fact, every thing I've shot with the NPT in my 9,3x62 has fell over (or knocked off its feet). I would say that if this is your expectation - Just switch to the Noslers and be done with it. Otherwise, guess you really won't know the bullet performace of the Prvi, without doing some of the bullet testing on game for yourself. ________ Ray

I killed a 350 pound boar with a hand loaded 285 gr PRVI bullet in my Blaser 9.3x62 Tracker, and it performed great. The bullet completely passed through. I have killed quite a few pigs in the 150-275 pound range with the PRVI bullets too, and I have never had one go very far after being hit. I love 250 gr Accubonds in a 9.3x62, but for the price, I mainly shoot the 285 gr PRVI's.

I have shot hundreds of the PRVI bullets through my CZ 550FS with very good results. I however have not hunted with them. Used Barnes TSX and Nosler Partitions in this setup in Moz last year. The TSX's accounted for Hippo, Sable, Baboon, Warthog and Duiker and used the Partition for my Leopard. I just prefer to go with bullets that I HAVE had good results with and not take chances. I would have no problem shooting the PRVI bullets at hogs, black bear and deer here in the States with no reservations. Larry Sellers SCI Life Member

Yes, Elk was shot up the tuchodi in 2008 it broke the shoulder and found it under the offside skin retained weight was in excess of 80% and the elk was DRT. ( large cow) I shot two deer this year with the same bullet in the x57 and am convinced they are fine for deer/elk/moose/black bear at x57/x62 velocities.

I used one out of a 9.3 to kill a small black bear a few years back. I took an off-angle shot and it traversed him lengthwise and exited.
