Did USRAC (FN-Winchester) make open sight Model 70 featherweights for Europe in 280 Rem? I came across one for sale, and am wondering if the open sights are factory original. The box says nothing about the open sights. I have seen model 70's from the last 15 years in 7mag with open sights. They were advertised as being Euro market overruns. Thanks Matt

Does the serial number match the box serial number?
I've found most gun makers accurately describe the rifle on the box, sights should be noted on the box.
Post a picture do they look like Winchester sights?

ColoradoMattThe box does not say anything about open sights. The box has the same SN#.

Well then.....you might be interested in the rest of the story....
The gun I own is not a FWT.....It's a Winchester Ranger.......a birch stocked rifle with a FWT barrel and iron sights.....I bought three of them and all of them had iron sights.
This one is a .30-06 and I installed it to a FWT stock and nothing more. It ONLY looks like a FWT.....and all three of my rifles were good shooters.....all were push feeds.
One in .223 was sold....(a very bad decision) and the other in .243 was rebarreled to .260 using a Douglas FWT barrel which is very close to the same as the original FWT barrel contour.
The only identifying marks are the words "RANGER" stamped on the barrel.
I bought these three rifles for $299 each new.....a helluve bargain.

SnellstromWinchester also made a rifle called a "Lightweight" (stamped on the barrel) the barrel contour is the same as a Featherweight I have one I got in the late 80's in a laminate stock in 30/06 and its been "the" rifle for me for years.

But I don't believe that rifle came with iron sights.
