Are the 7x57 and 7x57R identical in terms of case dimensions? I know the 8x57JS and 8x57JRS are identical )barring the rim) but I read somewhere that the the two 7x57's were not, there was a subtle difference in the shoulder and neck length. Is this true or bunk? Are the two indentical?

I looked on Norma's website. There is a likke difference int he neck area. The shoulder on the rimmed cartridge is 41 degrees, and .002" shorter than the non rimmed case. It's shoulder is 40.9 degrees. Bailey Bradshaw www.bradshawgunandrifle.com I'm in the gun buildin bidness, and cousin....bidness is a boomin

As BB noted there are differences, however in real life applications, there are none, I have been using regular 7x57 dies for the longest time for my 7x57R reloading needs. One thing to remember is that most 7x57R barrels have a most generous chamber and freebore. Best regards Chris

Kayaker, Good question! Thought I have been using vanilla flavored RCBS 7x57 Dies all along for my 7x57R but as it turned out that I actually do have a RCBS Die set marked 7x57R. I do use a RCBS 7x64 Brenneke Die Set & a 8x57IS RCBS Die Set to load for two Buddies 7x65R & 8x57IRS. Only tweak between the two is that for the 7x65R I have to adjsut the 7x64 Brenneke Full Length Die up just a smidgen (<quarter turn) for the rimmed version of the cartridge to chamber in his Drilling versus using the Die for a 7x64 Brennekes in a Bolt action. Had you never asked I would have gone on thinking the cartridges were both one & the same except for the Rim. Well Done! Cheers, Number 10
