I got tired of waiting on Grafs and made my own from '06 brass. They work great. Let me know if you want to know how.

Live well, Reload!

I've done the same, but as soon as the stuff from Graf's arrives, the '06-based brass is going in the trash. Okie John.

Remember that the '06 brass will have slightly less powder capacity than real 9.3 x 62 brass, so be sure to stay away from hot loads until you get the real McCoy.

The same as everyone else. Did it when I couldn't get other brass. Check with Midsouth, they had 9.3 X 62 Lapua brass a while ago. Cheap too. Forty something per hundred. - Dan

Guys,

What's your favorite powder for 9.3x62? I am fireforming my '06 brass with 50 gr of RL-15. It would seem that RL-15 would be a good choice given it's performance in the 35 Whelen, but it isn't even listed in my Speer manual. Does H4350 work well with the Speer 270 grainer? My Speer manual lists a top load of 64 grains of IMR-4350, which I also have, but I want to try the Hodgdon because of the supposed 'Extreme' technology (resistant to ambient temperature changes).

Looking for advice.....

Live well.

Try 66 gr of BL-C(2) or 59.5 gr of Varget. - Dan

RL15 works very well in my 9.3x62 with a variety of bullets including the 270gr Speer. I worked up a load of 58.0 grains with the Speer bullet and had no problems. However, my CZ seems to prefer the Nosler partitions, ballistic tips and the Barnes X (250gr) over the Speer.

Thanks, dan belisle.

Phil, do you know what the velocity of your load is, and in what barrel length it was tested? My rifle has a 20.5 inch barrel. I gladly trade a few fps for a shorter handier rifle.

Thanks again. Live well.

Big....My Cz 550 gets 2500 with a 250 Barnes X and 58.0 of RL15...That's with the 24" barrel...Accuracy is sub-moa...

Haven't chrono'd the Speer 270gr, but numbers for three other bullets and the corresponding charge of Reloader 15 in my CZ550 with 24-inch barrel -

Nosler Ballistic Tip 250gr - 2,540 fps w/ 58.0gr
Barnes X 250gr - 2,510 fps w/ 59.0gr (a little hotter than Pygmy's)
Nosler Partition 286gr - 2,440 fps w/ 59.0gr

Each of these shoots sub-MOA from the bench with the Ballistic Tip a little more accurate than the other two.

I'd like to acknowlege the many 9.3x62 handloaders here for steering me to these loads. Lots of great 9.3 advice here at AR. [Smile]

There's a surprisingly wide range of 9.3mm bullets available, although you probably won't find them at your local gun shop. Just bought some 232gr Norma's to try. Looks like Bridger is making a solid, just saw that Northfork is making a 250 grainer and I haven't even made it to the GS Custom or Woodleigh's.

Of course I recommend you start below these values and work your way up following all the standard loading safety procedures.

I found a few boxes of speer 250gr spitzers about a month ago,59.6gr of rl-15 is giving me 2610 fps with a sd of 9 fps.they are not quite as accurate as the barnes 250`s but will do for a medium range deer load.cost a lot less also.mine has a 26" tube on a nazi 98.weighs almost 11 lbs fully loaded with 2.5x8 vari-x 111 and sitting harris bipod.I love this rifle.I sent an empty box and a few bullets to speer, they said there are no records showing a 250gr .366 bullet.the things we find while looking around the local shops.I make my cases out of rem 35 whelans-bump to 40cal then size and fireform, they work fine.

I should add that I did some testing and got a little more than 100 FPS by using 9.3x62 Lapua brass as opposed to WW 30-06 reformed brass...

The Lapua is such fine brass and not at all expensive, so I feel it pays to use it over 06 brass..You have to fireform 06 brass so you may as well buy the Lapua....

Try the 230 gr. GS HV Custom bullets, wow!! and based on my penitration test they should shoot through two pine trees, one outcroping rock and elk from stem to stern, but be carefull about richochets [Wink] ....

Thanks for all the loading ideas, guys. That should keep me intrigued for a few weeks.

Mr. Atkinson, I'll have to try H414. Is it one of the 'Extreme' powders? I like the idea of powder being insensitive to low ambient temperature since I live and hunt in Michigan, and I plan on more NA hunts for moose, elk, and a few others. I'm entering the point where my financial situation allows it. I turned 44 today.

Live well.

I'm 46 today myself, Big Redhead. I think the latest lot numbers of H414 are treated with the same coatings as the other temperature extreme resistant powders from Hodgdon. Happy Birthday and take care. - Dan

Big Redhead,
I shoot 66 gr. H414 with the 230 gr. GS HV bullet and it sizzles at a suspected 2800 FPS., if my correlation is correct.. I will chronograph it this summmer..this is an exceptional load in the killing power catagory..

60 grs. of H414 with the 250 gr. Nosler Balistic tip or Swift for 2410 FPS is very accurate and very mild load..67.5 is max in my gun at 2630 FPS, computed from the Swift Manuel and accounting for my longer barrel..

Mostly I use RL-15, with max charges..I tend to like the 300 gr. Swift and the 320 Gr. Woodleigh at 2450 FPS and 2390 respectively in my 9.3x62. 26" gun. All my RL-15 loads have been chronographed..
