What happened to the RCM's no chatter that I can find?

They're out there being bought; hunters are developing loads and getting ready for next fall.

I bought a .338 RCM in January, developed loads, and took it hog hunting in Texas in February.

Worked, too... Big Grin...

Pretty fine rifle and cartridge, and it doesn't need to rely on "chatter".

They are probably excellent ctgs. Problem is there is too much overlap of similar performance within 30 caliber and 338 caliber chamberings. From a marketing perspective, what is the compelling reason for a guy to put his hard earned money down on an RCM ctg specially if you don't handload? Ammo is really hard to come by for the RCMs. If you hunt way out in the middle of somewhere, that could be an issue. I do see all kinds of wildcat possibilities if you roll your own.

After buying rifles in maybe two, at most three, different cartridges there is no compelling reason to buy anything. The reason to buy a .338 RCM is that it is handy, functional, and in fact fits in a niche, albeit a small one, between the .338 Federal and the .338 Win Mag.

The reality is I could have killed every big game animal I've ever killed, save one Cape buffalo, with the .30-06 I bought in 1974. But just how staggeringly boring and simple-minded would that have been Wink? I like the .338 RCM, and that is all the reason I need. If someone else likes it too -- that is all the reason they need. Trying to make them "competitive" with other cartridges is just ballistic gack, and is pretty irrelevant. They are what they are, just like about 97 other cartridges that are available.

And for those who tremble with concern over whether Hornady will be selling ammo for them in ten years -- I load for several rifles that have either not had ammo loaded in the USA since before WWII, or in a couple of cases have never had ammo loaded in the USA. But I manage to keep right on shooting them, even in Alaska a long way from any well-stocked gun store.

YMMV...
