I have quite a bit of Accurate 2520 sitting around and I'm wondering if any of you guys have tried this powder in a 338-06. If you have some experience with this powder please let me know how it worked for you. I'm particularly interested in 210 and 225 grain loads.

Thanks.
Forrest

Forrest I played a little with 2520 in a 336-06 I show accurate load in my rifle with a 210pt as 54 at 2650 24" barrel OAL 3.34. I didn't do much with it. I switched to RL15.

As usual just my $.02

I have 8# of AA 2520 used it in 358 Win., 308,
223 Rem, 35 Whelen, and 250 Savage. Should work well in your 338-06.

Thanks guys. Quickload estimates 53.5 - 54.0 grains of 2520 is a max load with 210-225 grain bullets. Velocities are estimated at 2650 - 2700 fps with a 23" bbl.

Everything seems to point to 2520 being a suitable powder but I've never heard anyone say it was their favorite and I can't help but wonder about it. There are lots of votes for RL15, 4320, H414 and 4350.

I'll try out the 2520 and post some result here.

Paul, was their any particular reason you gave up on 2520?

I had built the 338-06 always planning on rechambering to my 340PDK wildcat. I was simply doing some testing to establish a baseline for the parent case to compare to my wildcat. Rl15 happened to give just a touch more velocity(if my memory is working around 50fps)so I simply used it to form my baseline. I also had more RL15 than 2520 to use for my testing.

I had no negative issue at all with 2520 decent velocity and accuracy in my barrel.

Forrest I just happen to notice my load is actually above what the Nosler book lists as max for the 200 so PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION. I was using brass formed from 280Norma brass which has a higher capacity than most.

As usual just my $.02
