I'm getting ready to work up two loads for my 7 mag; a 150 gr screamer and a 175 gr thumper. Starting with the Scirocco for the 150 gr load and Norma MRP. What bullets do you recommend for the 175 gr load? Targer is 2900-3000 fps. I was going to start with Aframes, but wanted opinions on other bullets. Barrel is 26". Austin Hunter...When I lived in Montana and hunted elk on a regular basis, I used a 7mmRM and my standard load was a maximum charge of IMR4831 and either the 175gr partition or the Sierra 175gr gameking. Used that load for deer and elk. The results were more impressive on elk than deer, but the deer never went far and that load didn't wreck much meat. In my rifle both those bullets were extremely accurate, used the partitions in the timber and the gamekings in the wide open spaces...both did an excellent job. That 7mm gameking was designed especially for the 7mm RM, and it is a tough bullet. Those were the only bullets I used and they worked fine... Z

I settled on NOslers Accubond 150 gr. for high country, Rimrock, mule deer, where ranges are long, and 175 gr. partitions for most deer and elk hunts..The Scirocos seem to have a tendency to be inaccurate in some rifles IMO... If I had to settle for one bullet to hunt all game both large and small with any 284 caliber, It would be the 160 gr. Nosler partition. The partitions work on both small and large animals as the front end is a tad soft and begins expansion on contact..Its a great bullet in any 7mm..The medium and heavy partitions don't bloodshot a deer or elk like other bullets, and that's another consideration. I like to eat what I shoot and I dislike ruined venison, better a positive kill and a 50 yard run with a good blood trail..Ive found the 175 gr. on both deer and elk is suitable to me..The light bullets are for those who seem to be impressed by DRT and probably don't eat much of what they shoot.. The problem I have with 175's is that the 150 E-Tip driven at 3,000 fps gave me full penetration on Wildebeest, Kudu, Warties, Springers and Impala and also gave me 30"+ of penetration on Zebra and did in an Eland. I want to believe a 175gr. is a better killer but...evidence supports that anything I'd want to kill with a 7mm is amply satisfied with a 140-150 mono. May want to try the new Barnes 175 gr LRX.

R33 works super great with the 7mm 175 Sierra BT; 3050fps easily. Some folks like the Nosler or Swift, but it really is a toss up. Good luck to you Pard.

I'm running the 150gr Swift SCII in my 7mm RM. I've gotten best results with almost a full dose of H4831 and a COAL of 3.29". From what Bill Hober at Swift told me the SCII like a little bit (0.020") of 'jump' to the lands. Regarding the 175gr. You're best bets are the A-Frame or Partition like you mentioned. If Speer would ever sell the 175gr. TBBC as a component I'm jump on them. I've used them in factory loaded ammo and it's a serious hammer. With the heavy Barnes you have to watch your twist rate. I think a 175gr. 7mm Barnes bullet you almost need a 1:9" twist to stabilize. Most factory twists are 1:9.5" Keep us updated if you can on the progress.

I'm looking at the Sierra Gameking as well. Plan to start with the Aframe, then Partition, then GK. Hadn't thought about a 175 gr. for the 7mm. Mine's a Weatherby, not a Remington, but I'd planned on 160 gr. Accubonds.

Go with a 160 Accubond and you only have to work up one load. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I use 175gr Nosler Partitions on elk and 175gr Hornady SP Interlocks for deer when on combined hunt. If I had to choose one, it would be the Partitions. RL22 is my fuel of choice. BH1 There are no flies on 6.5s!

Another vote for the Accubond. Works great in my 7STW. If you can get your hands on some old Speer Bear claws you wont be disappointed in them either. Its a shame I didn't buy a mountain of them when they were available. **************************The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.

rnovi, Your spot on, in reality most 7mm bullets will kill most any animal with a proper shot placement within reason, the difference is over stated in most cases..I have culled many large animals with solids and body shots with both the 30-06 and 7x57 to think otherwise..In some terrains I wouldn't advise it but for the most part they work well enough. Were this not true then many buffalo would be running around with holes in them from tiny 375 solids in there vitals, therefore a 284 caliber solid in a 150 lb. deer should be as effective as a 300 gr. solid in a 1800 lb buffalo or 3000 lb. elephant it would seem.. I ordered a bunch of new powder this weekend for my 7 mag load work-up. I was going to use MRP, but didn't like the 1.5 fps/degree I saw on my 300 Weatherby last month. And I wanted something with some decoppering additive. So I ordered IMR 7977 & 4955 and Reloader 23 and 26. Plan to start with 150 gr Sciroccos and GameKings, if they don't group, mpve to Accubonds. On my 175 gr load, ordered some 175 gr GameKing. Woodleighs are next if needed. I have been working up a load with 160 gr Gamekings and RL23 in my 7mm Magnum. I've been having great luck with RL 23 in many different calibers, and I've been a huge fan of Gamekings for a long time now.

IMO, the 7 mag was made to shoot 160gr bullets. Work up a good load with the 160gr bullet of your choice and use it on everything. I personally use 160gr Partitions but they are very accurate in my rifle. You can easily get 3000fps. Aim for the exit hole

Try the new(er) Grand Slams. They shoot better than the old multi-core ones and are excellent performers. AK-47 The only Communist Idea that Liberals don't like.

The more I use the Nosler accubonds, the more impressed I become..Ive shot a few deer and a few elk with them in 250 Savage, 30-06 and .338 and they certainly are impressive..Maybe a bit more blood shot meat than the partitions is my take, every one Ive recovered exhibited picture perfect mush rooms and and plenty of penetration..Not as much penetration as the partition, but more internal damage is my call.... Do I prefer them over partitions?? not yet anyway but sure can't tell you why other than traditionally I love partitions..
