Guys, I just purchased a Parker-Hale 7mm Rem Mag that was made in the 70s I believe in Birmingham England. But I don't have much more detail than that so any and all info on the rifle will be greatly appreciated.

It shot reliably but the extraction of the spent brass was not consistent plus the trigger pull was rather heavy. BTW, it has the removable 3 round magazine but it does not seem to fit perfectly into the mag well as it should. Is this common with the PH rifles? How good a quality is this rifle and what type of accuracy should one expect?

After shooting it I took it apart and worked on it a bit for some fine tunning. The trigger pull was lightened and the mag well was shaped around the magazine with a rubber mallet. After putting it back together it now feeds the rounds reliably, and extracts properly. But if any of you have additional words of wisdom please do share.

Thanks,
gcp

The Parker Hales were built on the Santa Barbara (spanish) Mauser action. I've heard some say that some of the Santa Barara actions had some issues with heat treating I think. I have never heard any problems with the Parker Hale. They are a nice rifle. Just a touch modern (stock lines) for my classic taste.

As to the removable mag. That is an after market as far as I know. If not then I've learned something new.

What kind of extraction issues? Or is it ejection? Never mind just reread you had fixed that problem.

As usual just my $.02

The magazine design is factory original, not aftermarket.

Only reason I bought the rifle is because of its lines, and the nice balance it has. I have a S&W in 7mmRemMag which I dearly love, my first rifle ever as a matter of fact (circa 1980 I believe), but the PH just seemed a bit prettier to me, and lighter.

In any case, since I like this stock design I can always buy another Monte Carlo stock I guess and fit onto it either of my Swede mausers, if 6.5x55is what I'd like to hunt with.

My book didn't list it as an option. I had only seen them as an aftermarket. If it is factory more the better.

If you like the lines then it is the perfect rifle for you. Nothing wrong with the S&W (Howa) either.

Hey if everyone like the same style rifle it would be very boring.

So now I have learned my something new for the day and I'm all set.
Have a good one. cheers
