| Well, I don't have either of them, but from looking around, it seems that in sporter-length barrels (26") and sporter-weight bullets (225-250g) the RUM has as much capacity as you need, and the Lapua is more wasted space.
But your friend can get quite a bit more out of that 250g if he rolls his own. Give it a 30" bbl, and/or 300g bullets, and you'll see a fair difference. The round was supposedly developed around a 250g/3000fps bullet, so it would seem for that purpose the RUM does fine and with less (powder=recoil). |

| What was your load on the 250 gr.My 338-378 goes that same speed with 110 grs of reloader 25 and 250 gr. Nosler Partitions. It also shoots .25 groups with that load.I almost got Sendero 338 ultra mag but didnt.I hope another one turns up.The 338 ultra mag is way underloaded by Remington. |

| My .338 Lapua has a load it likes above all else, and will shoot a one hole group with it, when I have a good day pulling the trigger. The one hole group meaning that three shots touch each other, in any configuration, at 100 yards. Just this past weekend I shot that load and it cronographed at 3094 fps, with a Barnes X bullet. It will do a little faster with the North Fork 240 grain bullet with the same accuracy, and about the same with the Swift A-Frame 250 grain bullet. I can shoot all the bullets mentioned faster, around 3200 fps but not with that accuracy. The accuracy with the faster speeds is 1 in to 1.5 inchs. All loads are with 99 grains of H-1000 powder and Fed 215M primers. I cronograph all my shooting sessions with a Oehler 35P cronograph. Any .338 be it a .338 Ultra mag, .338-378, or Lapua, that will shoot a 250 grain bullet that fast with that accuracy is awesome indeed in my opinion. I have shot .340 Wby's for years and they also come close to that, more in the 2950 fps range. Good shooting. |

| The 3127fps is listed in a load book I have. I have never loaded my 338 Ultra mag that fast. The fastest I have loaded my rifle with the 250 gr hornady bullet is 3048 fps with 102gr of H1000 but the group was about 3" at 200 yds. Was going to try something a little slower like 2975 fps with 100gr of H1000 and see what that does. Would like to get 3 bullets touching like the rifle does with 79.5gr of Imr 4350 at 150 yds. That 3150 was my mistake. |

| Barnes list the 250XFB at 2857 for the ultra, 3024 for the Lapua, 3042 for the .338-.378. My hunting load for my .338 ultra is a partition gold at 3100FPS, 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Rifle has a 27" krieger barrel. |
