Dave, The implied reason for the design change to the R8 was to allow for larger calibers like the 458 Lott and 500 Jeffery. That didn't interest me, as I have double rifles and large-caliber bolt guns specifically for African hunting. I also didn't see the advantage of a rifle where the trigger assembly pops out on command. But as offers came in on my R93 rifles and components, and I saw that I could move them out in total, I thought it might be a good time to make the switch. The R8 still has the features that have endeared us to Blasers in the first place; accuracy, take-down capability, accuracy, barrel changeability, accuracy, easy scope mounting, accuracy, exquisite trigger.....and did I mention accuracy? :-)

Don't underestimate the value of the removable trigger group and magazine. It renders the rifle perfectly safe, in addition to being a quick unload. I was back on the safari vehicle with my fire control in my pocket while others were still fighting with their unloading process.

On the R8 you can lock in the fire control if it really bothers you.

I was ambivalent when I bought my R8 but now I'm a real fan.

They're ambidextrous now, with a palm swell on both sides of the grip.

Was convinced to start off the package with the 300 Win Mag barrel but am now thinking to just go with the 30-06 and maybe add a 9,3x62 later. Really don't need anything bigger than this as I have doubles in 450 NE, 450/400 and 9,3x74R plus a Ruger 375 Alaskan.

Only other option that makes sense is to go with a 300 Win Mag then maybe add a 338 Win Mag later.

Who makes the aftermarket scope mount? Cost?

Thanks guys

That's pretty much what I did. I first picked up a used Prestige action, then a new 9,3X62 barrel, then a used 30/06 barrel and finally a Blaser case. I am a big fan of the 9,3 and I figure with this one set up, you could hunt the world.

Along the way I picked up a couple of scope mounts. Blaser simply has the best scope mounting system in the world. I used to have an S2. You could pull the scope off my R93 and mount it on my S2 in seconds.
