Hi from Germany,
I'm reading the posts in this forum for a certain time now, but I never posted anything 'til now, so I'm quite new here.
My Question is now, doe anybody have data for the 8x60S cartridge, especially with X-bullets or heavier softpoints, like the Woodleigh 250gr.?
Thanks for Your advice.

happy hunting!

Welcome,

This is a timely post. I just got my 8x60 reamer and will also need data preferably for heavier bullets too.

This will be only midly helpful, but start with 8x57 data and work towards 8x64 data, and expect to stop somewhere in between.

Fine round... the 8x60s thumb

thanks for the kind replys, starting with top loads for 8x57IS and going up, is exactly what I'm doing all the time, I was just wondering, how far I could go and what you have already reached.
At the moment I'm using 51grs. VV N150 behind a 200gr. Sako Hammerhead in a reformed 30-06 case (8x60S cases are relatively easy to come by here, but I can mess up 4 new 30-06 cases for the price of one 8x60 Big Grin). I just don't now how fast this load is, since I have no chrongraph at the moment, but it seems to be quite hot already.
By the way, IMR powders as are mentioned in the reloaders nest loads are at the moment very difficult to get here, so I have to stick with Vithavuory and Hodgdon.

Welcome bulletcaster,

I´ll be receiving my 8x60S in a months time and am also looking for a good bullet combo. I´m having a hard time locating brass though. Where in Germany could it be ordered from?

Hi, bulletcaster! Here are my loads chronographed, and they seem to be ok in my Brno M21 8x60S, no signs of excessive pressure, but they should be close to max. Be careful.

Woodleigh 250 grs,
WW primer, RWS brass,
Vihtavuori N140
46 grs 701 m/s
47 grs 713 m/s

Vihtavuori N150
48 grs 710 m/s
49 grs 730 m/s = 2390 fps (perfect!)

Sako Hammerhead 200 grs,
WW primer, RWS brass,
Vihtavuori N140
50 grs 758 m/s
52 grs 788 m/s
53 grs 810 m/s = 2670 fps

8x60S is a wonderful medium bore, and the 250 grs bullet a beauty, but I think I´m going to compromise with the Woodleigh 220 grs at 750 m/s = 2450 fps.

Thank you guys for the data, that's exactly what I needed.
@ cewe: you should try Johannsen orwiederlade-service there you should get what you need.
@ Klosterförster: You are right, I should have asked you earlier on the Wild & Hund Forum. Are there more of us here?

Aha! Monastery-Forester, I recall reading of a splendid load of yours for the Lapua Mega 156 grs bullet 6,5x54MS and a short barrel some time ago. Can´t seem to find it though. Care to share that info again? Sorry for hijacking the thread..

Bulletcaster: Thanks for the tips, I´ve emailed Johanssen about the brass. I would have tried widerlade but my German is so bad that I couldn´t make any sence out of their homepage...

Bulletcaster: Thanks for the tip, Johanssen already answered my mail and I have 60pcs of brass on order.

I was looking at bullets and saw that they had 220gr 8mmS Sierra bullets for a nice price -82 E for 250 bullets. Anyone have experience with that bullet in 8mm?

Yes, Cewe, I have tried it in 8x64S and 8x75RS. Like often with GameKings, I have had several core-separation on red deer and wildboar. Invest some money more and take the Woodleigh 220grs! You can get it from Johannsen, too.

MF: That is what I suspected, same thing happenens in .375H&H but I was hoping that they might hold up in 8 mm.

Have you shot Megas in the 8mm? What bullet weight?

I like the Megas very much, but is the 8mm-200grs or 196grs Lapua-Flatpoint a Mega? Is it not only a normal softpoint?
I`m just testing the Naturalis in 8x75RS, 62grs N550must be good for 850M/sek. A quite soft load, but my K77 is very light and with full power loads it kicks like a horse!

MF: I wasn´t able to find any 8mm bullets from Lapua, instead I ordered Norma 12.7gram Alaskas. They are quite cheap so I can shoot them for practise. I´ll probably go with Woodleighs for hunting.

Hi cewe,
as far as I know, Lapua doesn't make any 8mm bullets anymore, exept for the Naturalis, wich I haven't tried yet. But anyhow the old 196grs Flatpoint was just a regular softpoint not a Mega as Klosterförster mentioned allready.
As it goes for Wiederlade-Service try this link, it should work better for you.
I'm glad I could help you out, but I hope Johannsen will still have some cases when I order the next timeCool.

IMR 4350

Find load data for the 8x57 and 8mm-06 for any given bullet. Split the difference in charge weight.

I use Woodleigh 220 round nose in my 1938 Brno model A.

Start with a load a grain or two below the max of 8x57IS. Mostly you find a good load at 2-4 grs over max for 8x57.
