A new cartridge (for me anyway) to load; the 300 RUM. The proud owner would like to start with Barnes 180 gr. MRX's & 165 gr. TSX's. Any suggestions would be welcome, suitable powders, best bullets, expereinces & potential watch-outs (like Sissy-Bags for the Bench). It's a Remington action in a McMillan stock with a 28" barrel made up into a Fly-Weight Sporter! Whew! Cheers, Number 10

ewww, that's going to hurt. You have fun now, ya hear. I have not done intensive tests with my 300 RUM, 28" bbl b/c the first bullet I tried was a gem. Re25 under a 200 AB, Remington or Federal brass, WLRM or Fed215 primer. However, I can assure you that H1000, WC872, and Retumbo are definitely powders to try. the only suggestion i can even think of is to cut the case in half and neck down to 308.

If it is a new rifle as well as being new to you I would not use Barnes bullets for the break-in period.....the softer copper won't smooth the barrel as well. I second the 200g Accubond suggestion... Cheers, Dan

I use Remington brass, Winchester Mag primers, 96.5gr of Retumbo, 180gr Accubonds. It has plenty of punch. Seating depth is what the magazine will accept. Kelly

I's a great cartridge Gerry..........the best of the 300 magnums............ With 168 TSX Match my rifle liked 94 of RE-25 and shot.3 It also liked H1000, 96 grains shot into .6 with the 168 Nosler CC My rifle seems to prefer the 200's over the 180's ; 88 of Re-25 and the 200 Swift is a cracker as is the 200 Lapua Naturalis and 93 of N570......shoots beautifully. With the 200's a brake helps Verbera!, Iugula!, Iugula!!! Blair.

Hey Guys, Thanks to everyone for the advice so far. It's not my rifle so I'll have to ask if I can take some photos & post them. It is a VERY nice looking, VERY light rifle. When my Buddy handed it to me the first time I thought I was handling a rimfire or .22 Hornet - it's that light. I'm begining to think I'd rather be the Gun Bearer here than the load testing Guy! I have the Dies, his once-fired Federal cases (actually they look like minature Vases) and we're pondering the "How do we get this project going issue" as he's tired of paying @ $130.00 for a box of 20 Federal cartridges here in The Fatherland. I'm concerning myself with two issue at the moment; the powder and how many sand bags I can get between my shoulder and Buttstock. Cheers, Number 10

Blair, Thx Pal. I've already got three bags of various sizes made out of old Blue Jeans legs (w/ Glad Bag inserts) that I filled compliments of a local Golf Course with very clean, nice, white sand. Used one of them on a friends Blaser R93 (very light) .416 Remington with great satisfaction but if your prediction si true I've got 200 lbs. of shot in the basement if #6 is required. Cheers, Number 10
