Does anyone remember these? They were a semi-custom build some time ago, using a Sako L961 action, Krieger Criterion barrel, HS Precision stock, Timney trigger, and Teflon coated metalwork. I had one in 270 years ago and it shot like a benchrest rifle. I just found one in 30-06 that is on its way to me now. We'll see if this one shoots as well.

Magnum Research also made these specially modified Sako actions available through wholesalers. I bought a .223 size action & converted it to 6BR. Very accurate and a favorite varmint rifle.

They were also available with standard weight blued (unfluted) barrels. I own one in .300 WBY, and though the proprietary Weatherby chamberings are not my favorite calibers, this one is quite accurate. Took an elk with it a couple of years ago.

By the way, the designation of the Sako action was "L691". The ones made for Magnum Research were not marked with the Sako name and had the top of the receiver contoured, drilled & tapped to take Rem 700 bases.

Yes, the Rem 700 bases are a big plus. I hate trying to scope Sakos with all the different variations over time.

Butchloc, maybe I'll trade it for 11 or 12 Mossbergs that I can sell to you :-)

????
From the first L46 in 1946 through the current Model 85, virtually every Sako has had the very same tapered dovetail mounting system. At least a dozen different companies make or have made mounts for them in addition to the regular Sako factory ringmounts which clamp directly on the receiver.

The only exceptions to the dovetail mounts are those Sako actions made expressly for proprietary rifle builders like the Mountain Eagle, Browning, H&R, etc. A very long time ago Sako did a brief cooperative project with Tikka (Sako Model M581) which used Tikka mounts, and more recently the oddball Sako A-7 uses bases instead of the tapered dovetail, but otherwise, three-quarters of a century of Sako production has had the identical mounting system.
