Have used the same powder and bullet in my 7mag-H-4831-69.8gr-139gr hornady with Fed-215 primers for 34yrs and on the 3rd one now. Sent you a P.M.-private message top right hand corner of the forums page under {my home} . 140gr nos-partition, 139gr Interbond,140gr Accubond will work if you want a heavy bonded bullet in that weight group. Imr 7828 is also very accurate in the 7mag-70to74gr gets about same Vel.as H4831-3260-75 av.fps

Should have said this first WELCOME to the Forum

slower burning powders like 4831's, RL22, 7828, etc work well with 140-175 gr. bullets. I'd try the 154 gr. Hornady Interbond over h4831sc as my first go-to load for a 7mm Mag for the game you'll be hunting.

The following load has shot well in every 7mm Rem that I have ever loaded for...

65.0 H4831 LR primer and any good 160 grain spitzer... I've loaded mostly Nosler partitions and Speer Hot Cores..

It's as close to an all around load as you'll find in the 7mm Rem....

Sierra 140 Pro Hunter
65.5grs IMR 4350
avg velocity 3264fps

I have one of those slow rifles. Tried just about every reasonable combination, and some that weren't, and couldn't break 2950FPS.

I landed on one powder that stood above all others, V-V N160. 66.0 grains pushes both Sierra and Nosler 160s to almost 3100FPS. With a S/D in the single digits, I get an honest 3050+FPS. Both shoot to the same point of impact.

Work up to a max./accurate load of RL22. IMR7828 or H1000 under a good 160gr bullet & you should be really close to the 3000fps range & capable of taking anything in NA, but the really big bears. If you wnat more expansion drop to a Speer or Sierra. For a tougher bullet got to the Nosler Part., Swift, etc.
If I want to shoot 140gr bullets over 3000fps, I'll shoot a .280.

I have recently come by a good Rem Mag that I bought from one of my friends.

these are the loads i have tried so far that works very well in my rifle , all of these are sub MOA. Unfortunately I am not lucky enough to have all the powders available to me , and have one good powder to work with , ( It is within 5% in burning rate to RL22).

59 gr S385 ( Sonchem)
150 gr Nosler Bal Tip
2960 fps

58 gr S385
160 Speer BT
2840

< !--color-->
42 gr S335 (Medium burning powder) Same as for the 7x57
This is a reduced load so use a dacron filler
175 gr Hornady
2350

Best of luck , and welcome to the pages

I have used a few diff powders and have found Reloder 22 to be my Mod. 700 7mm Mags favorite. W/ 160 grain bullets at 3100 fps it will print less than an inch at 100. W/ 140 grn bullets I like 69 grns of H4831 for 3210 fps.

The 150s shoot great too. The 150 grn. Nosler Balistic tips have worked wonders for a killer whitetail load. W/ R22 @ about 3250 fps, they hardly ever get out of their tracks.

Re-22 is a wonderful powder for the 7mm mag, particularly with 160 grain bullets. No trick at all to get over 3000 fps with excellent accuracy. Regards, Guy

Hi heliarc73,
My experiance with the 7mag is it will be hard to find something that does'nt work. imr7828 and a 160 nosler partition will make 3000fps. A good accurate load.

I have 3, and my favorite overall load is a Max charge of RL-25 and Nosler 160 Partitions. It shoots sub MOA out to 300yds...
RL-22 is probably better overall if you want to shoot 140's & 150's, but if you try more than 1 powder add RL-25 and H-4831 to the list.

Went to the range the other day with my 7mm and chroni. For some reason RL22 did not do well at all with 140 gr NP. Groups were terrible 2-4" and velocity spread was all over creation. With 175 gr Hornady and RL22 the groups were fantastic and the velocity spread was minimal. I checked my reloading notes and discovered that I had similar problems with the 140 gr NP before with RL22 and CCI 250 primers - the load I was testing used WLR primers - so primer not the issue. My notes told me that SC4831 gave exteremly accurate groups with SC4841 and the 140 gr NP. I have read were RL19 does well with this bullet - need to try it next. I use RL22 in the 270 with all bullet weights and couldn't be happier - but in the 7mm RM with this particular bullet I haver never seen such variations in velocity and group size - both with new and reloaded brass -loads were hand trickled. I have read of excessive pressure excursions in 7mm mags before and this just may be an example of that - in this particular rifle the 7mm RM case with RL22 needs a heavier bullet at near max loadings.

IMR4831 works well in the 7mm Rem.Mag. with almost all bullet weights. I've just started working with VihtaVouri
560, and it looks like that may be even better. Best wishes.

The load I have settled on that has worked in 3 different 7mags was 62.5 grains of R22 over the 160gr. bullet of your choice, we have used Nosler partitions but just switched to Northfork.

It's shot an inch or better in 3 so far, but might be a little heavy if you are just wanting to shoot deer.

Biathlonman,

Have you crono'ed that load yet? I use 65 grains in Federal cases, 215 primer and 160 grain Swift A-frame and get a little under 2900 FPS (2889 @ 15 ft from muzzle in a Sako AV with factory 23" barrel), a 62.5 grain load sounds a little light. From my old loading notes, using a 63 grain load (lot number 99037), as a starting point, I got 2792 FPS same case and primer above, and using a 160 grain Nosler partition.

Running your load through Quickload shows 2766 FPS, with the 160 grain Swift A-frame aboard. Not trying to be critical, but I am interested in your results and how they might compare to my quickload simulation.

Thanks,

Bob
