There is a rifle on the used rack at the LGS....its a Howaby in 7mm RM.....however....it has to have a 20" at best, barrel, possibly shorter ( I didn't have a tape measure on me lol) Its on a very light stock as well. I know people do some dumb things to their rifles, but honestly why would someone chop a 7mm RM THAT short? I mean what kind of ballistics would we be talking about with an overbore cartridge with such a short tube?

You see a rifle every now & then with a real short barrel. Some may have been deliberatly shortened but I would bet some had a round fired with a little snow or mud in the barrel. I picked up an H&R rifle with an FN action a couple yeras ago. It was a short barreled 7mm Rem. It just about deafened a person to shoot it. I just put a new 25 in barrel on it and it shoots like a dam now. Short barreled guns usually sell cheap enough you can afford a new barrel.
I once had a 19 1/2" 7 Rem Mag that I had gotten in a trade. It also had a muzzle brake on it.
Basically it was the worlds loudest 7-08. I tried a bunch of different combinations and could never get 140gr bullets over 3000fps with book loads.
I ended up trading it to a guy who promptly shot a fantastic 14pt whitetail and he's convinced it's the Hammer of Thor. I'm glad HE likes it :-) ..........................DJ

I often wondered what Sako was thinking when they made their mannlicher model in 7 RM. Now, .338 and .375 I can kind of see, but c'mon! Anyone out there own one? What velo's do you get? and do you own walker's game ears?
Damn right its loaded, it makes a lousy club. -JW

Dear god it IS factory!!! I forgot the model number, but I looked it up in the guide book at Gander Mountain. It has the 20" barrel, and some kind of green "weave" fiberglass stock....they did this gun on PURPOSE lol. At 350$ its actually priced pretty decently, its in great shape minus one little nick in the stock which I'm sure they raped the seller over. I want to say the book said these were imported around the late 80's....wonder if that means the barrel is shot out and it would make a good donor actioin?

NO, the barrel most assuredly won't be shot out, and yes, it will make a good donor rifle.
J&G Sales in Arizona had a pot load of brand new Sako barrels recently -- all 20" long. If you think the 7mm Mag is a folly at that length, just try a .264 Winchester

I actually do fancy the stock thats on it...its a neat weaved type fiber...and an interesting green color. All in all the fun feels nice! It would be better if it was a short action with a mag bolt, I'd make that sucker into a 350 Rem Mag in a heartbeat!

Yep, factory rifle alright. Many moons ago, I worked part-time in a local gunshop (now long-gone) and I remember we had one in stock. Had to be the world's loudest 7mm Rem Mag.
