Hi guys,
Just took my new CZ-550 out for a test. Best results came from using 165gr Nosler BT´s and 45gr of VVN-150 powder. Quite happy with it.

OK Georg, don't tease us like this. We want more. Wink

Next time you go to the range, a follow-up would be nice. I would like to see some five shot groups.

May I ask a favor? I would like to read your results of a first shot / cold barrel test with that rifle in particular. This test is simple, but may have variables.

I'll try to explain: The first question that needs an answer is whether to clean the barrel first or take it to the range fouled from the last outing. The reason for the question is I presume that the first shot /cold bore will be affected by any oil or cleaning solvent in the bore, which may have a bearing on the results of the test.

If I was doing the test, I would do it both ways - with a cleaned bore, and with a dirty bore. I would clean the bore in the normal way, but flush it out with some spray degreaser.

So, my point is I would like to see if this CZ 550 shoots the same point of impact with the first shot / cold bore as it shoots with 2nd and 3rd shot through warm barrel.

I hope I've tweeked your curosity enough to give it a try.

That CZ 550 Varmint in 308 appeals to me too. I am interested in a thorough field and range report. I posted a question on this forum before asking for opinions about the rifle, and got some feed back.

My main focus of interest is the difference one can expect comparing the heavy barrel varmint to the standard sporter weight rifle in 308, which is also offered by CZ.

One thing I like about the CZ 550 in 308 is the 12" twist rate barrel. So, it's no suprise that the 165gr bullet performed well for you. I have a 308 with a heavy barrel, with 12" twist, and I had it made with 165gr bullets in mind. That's mostly what I shot through it, but a friend insisted that I try some of his favorite handloads with 130 gr bullets. It shot those accurately too, but I prefer the 165gr.
