sometime in the next 2 months i'm going to buy another rifle. it will be a cz model 550 in 9.3x62. i can't decide between the american stock and no open sights or the lux model with open sights. i would like to have the sights but don't want to get my fillings knocked loose every time i fire it because of the hump back stock. i need advice from someone who has shot the lux model in 9.3x62. is the stock design really that bad? all opinions/suggestions are welcome...thanks...bud

do not listen to all the bullshit about the humpback stock being no good as it is simply not right. That bullshit caused me to spend $900.00 on a replacement stock for my cz .416 Rigby because I thought it a requirment. Economics meant I had to try it on my .375.
I Love my cz humpback .375 H&H and it is just great. I am converting a cz "humback" .458 winnie to .458 lott and the humpback will be staying. I find them comfortable and I like the looks of them.
I am also awaiting the arrival of a cz 9.3x62 "humpback" Lux I would grab that "humpback" Lux and set up a scope in QD mounts so you have the option of both irons and scopes. Apparently some 9.3 Lux's come with some very pretty wood.
You won't be dissapointed. But you will have a heap of people on here otherwise. I think there wrong
Let the flaming begin

Just to add CZ are my favourite make of rifle so looks as though great minds think alike
All bull aside the cz 550's are great there a very solid rifle. There are a coupl people here who have had an issue with them but that is to be expected from time to time I suppose, plenty of Rem's and winnies have also had a few little teething problems as well. I just like there forged mauser styled actions at a reasonable price. I also like the "set" trigger that comes standard on the cz's. I own cz's in
.22 Hornet .375 H&H .416 Rigby .458 Win (soon to be .458 Lott) 9.3x62 (arriving any day...for the last 2 months )
They work out expensive because you begin to really like them and have to buy heaps more

Bud: I cannot speak for the recoil. I own a CZ 550 American in 7x57mm and my brother owns a CZ 550 Full Stock, the one with the humpback. To be honest, his does feel like there is a tad less recoil than with mine, but then the 7x57mm doesn't kick that much to begin with. My only problem with the humpback, and that is with my CZ 527 Lux in .223 Remington, is eye-scope allignment when I am on the range and shooting both the CZ 550 American and the CZ 527. I have to hunt for the cheek-weld a bit with the 527. That said, I attribute this to lack of use more than anything else, especially after having previously shot the CZ 550 American and immediately picking up the CZ 527 for a session while the barrel on the CZ 550 American cools. If you like the humpback ... Go for It! Tom Purdom
thanks to all for the replies. i'm going to get the lux/open sight model. like everyone else(almost!) these cz's sort of grow on a guy. this 9.3 x62 should round out my collection. i already have a 452 american(22lr), a 452 special(22lr), a 452 lux(22 mag), a 527 american(223), a 527 carbine( rebarreled to 6 PPC ) and a 550 american(6.5x55). so this next on will about complete the set. of course one of those short barrel FS models would be kind of neat, and everyone needs a heavy barrel 308,and......
thanks again...bud

I think you've contracted CZ-itis. There's no known cure.

I purchased a CZ 550 Lux in 9.3x62. And while I haven't shot it yet(I'm still waiting for the ammo ) I'm hooked. This gun is beautiful for the $530 that I payed for it. It came with dual crossbolts and a beautifully finished piece of Turkish walnut. The blueing is wonderful and it came with a factory fired three shot target that is grouped at 1" at 100m.
I'll post again after I shoot it to see if I'm still so addicted. But for now chalk up another one to a case of CZ-itis.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the lux stock, I just can't get past the appearance of the the hump. 'course that's one reason why there are blondes and redheads.

Congrats on the CZ. I had to wait over two months to get mine. They lost my order and kept saying it was the distributor. I love the Lux stock. I fits me like a glove. I can close my eyes and shoulder the rifle and when I open my eyes I've got the bead in the notch. By the way I looked up what they call this humped back stock or as some call it a Bavarian stock and in the German speaking nations (according to my source) is called a "Schweinsrucken" (the u is supposed to be and umlaut). I think the best translation for this in english would be "Hogs Back". That neat looking cheek piece is a "Bayerischer Backe" which means "Bavarian cheek-piece". I'm sorry I don't know what it would be in Czech. Thats my two cents if anybody cares
don't complain about having to wait 2 months I ordered my Lux 9.3 at Christmas and it still aint here
Hopefully it will be here this week though.
I have my test loads ready to go; I am trying the 270 gr speers first, should be a good grassy bullet
I have had a good 2 weeks as far as a cz junky goes I have had my .458 win cz (donor for lott project arrive) and my Lux is supooooosed to be here this week.
But I still need more I would not mind a Heavy barrelled .308 cz as well

I was in my favorite gun shop today and I departed with a CZ550 Lux 9.3 x 62. Also 5 boxes of ammo and a fixed 4x Leupold. I guess I'm going to have to go shoot a moose with it in the next few weeks. I did manage to get to the range and zero the thing in. Shoots pretty good. around 2 inches a 100 yards off of a rolled up sleeping bag. I didn't have my sand bags and rest. It should do. That set trigger, is really neat.

I have watched the bitchin' about the Lux "ugly" stock for the last 2 years. All I can say is I like them and for the reasons stated above: When I look up the sight is right there and the stock seems to soak up recoil. I have Lux models in 416, 9.3x62, 30.06, 375 H&H, and 458 Lott. There are various other CZ's in 22 Hornet, 223, 7x57,22lr and 22 WMR. I have the disease too. I took my 9.3 to RSA last August and was very impressed with it's performance. It just about made a one gun guy out of me. The performance is way out of proportion to the apparent ballistics. It is a very effective round in the field.

I have a CZ550 American in 9.3x62, and it came with double cross bolts and a Pachmayr Decellerator recoil pad. Eventually it will be wearing Talley QD scope mounts from Brockman's Rifles with the pop up peep sight in the rear base, and an appropriate front blade...
