Considering some options for acquisition of uncommon brass. Looking for interest in the following:

318 Westley Richards
9.3x64 Brenneke

If there is enough interest to satisfy a large bulk purchase it may create more favorable pricing leverage. Love to hear from you.

I don’t know where you will be getting this brass, but I would be interested in 10.75x68 brass, if that’s a possibility. I know a few others that would be too. Depending on the price, I would be interested in 318. I don’t have a rifle yet, but I am interested in having one at some point. I will never buy any Bertram brass ever again.

I have a .318, but I just make the brass out of .30-'06 cases, quite a simple process.

I use a tapered expander to open the neck up to .338", and then it's just a question of running the case through a .318 full length resizing die. I then trim, if necessary.

I bought 100 pieces of 318 brass from Quality Cartridge years ago for having correct headstamped brass before a safari. It is excellent brass and I might be interested in more, but not Bertram! It might help if you tell the name of the supplier.

Starline might be a good source to talk with. Of all of the brass manufacturers, I think they would be the most receptive to the ideal (for 318 anyway). You will need to pitch this idea on several forums- Nitro Express, 24hourcampfire, Ruger forum, singleactions dot com, african hunting dot comare some prominent ones that I can think of, but there are more. A relatively large minimum order will be required.

I'm down for 10,75x68. I'm sure there's a good amount of demand for 9,3x64 and 8x68.

the .318 will have very limited sales IMO, as will the 9.3x64 I suspect, the 10.75x68 will have even less interest although it would be the one I would buy for sure, but all these calibers have very little appeal to the millions, just on AR and specialized blogs, filled with nostalgia...sad but true the average gunny has no desire for such hardware IMO...If your successful then Im all for you..

For German calibers, I would just buy new or once fired in Germany and have it shipped. RWS would be my choice with Norma second. I have bought excellent once fired brass in bulk for less than $2 a piece delivered in quantity.

Importation costs are probably too high, but Huelsen Horneber makes 318 WR, 9.3x64, and 10.75x68. They only sell through Reimer Johannsen in Germany and another outfit in Austria. We would need it to pass through export/import. Just too many fingers in the pie to make it work unless some huge orders were placed.

I see the problem before you even get started, your competing with the big boys and you will need a goodly price for say the 318, but the shooters can run a 06 thru a 318 die and bingo or so Ive been told..that was the problem with most wildcats like the 35 Whelen back in the day, the oldtimers shot cheap milsurp ammo in 30-06 out the tube of their Whelens and that fireformed a case for pennys back then..

Add to that, a wildcat or old caliber that cannot be made from a mother case is dead to start with, nobody in their right mind would own such a worthless beast! Eeker

Ok, I am only playing the devils advocate on the subject, but historically that's been the down side..

These calibers are toys for boys, they are costly and take the .318 for instance it has nothing but nostalgia to offer, its not as good as the 30-06, 338/06, 9.3x62, 35 Whelen to name a few! diggin horse stir sofa

Looks like $3.52/case. That is pretty expensive and like Ray said can be made from an existing case. Same price for the others mentioned though the most interest seemed to be on the 10.75x68.

That makes it over $350 for 100 new cases which may or may not be worth it to some. What do people think?

Did you think about trying Quality Cartridge? They are considerably cheaper and if you got a big enough order, they would probably tool up to make the run. How big an order it takes is the question.

Quality Cartridge shows 318 WR as $2.79 per brass or $55.97/20 which is a whole lot better than the other place. I left a VM trying to gather additional info as to minimum size of order as well as whether any further discounts may be available. When I learn more I will report in.

Quality Cartridge called me last night. An order for 1,000.00 cases of 318 WR would be the price above less 10% or a shade under $2.00 per brass.

It's good brass and thats not a bad price, but 10% would be more like 2.50 apiece? Did he give you an idea of how long from order to delivery?

You're right. My bad math. He said give a better number on number of units needed and he could be more specific as to turnaround time, etc.

So, I guess if 10 people wanted a 100 units apiece it could certainly be done. Obviously, 3006 can be made to work but certainly I would think a 100 units of properly headstamped brass would last a lifetime.
