I seem to have a hard time with the search engine of this new web page format. I know these guns have been talked about, but I can't seem to get at it. Are either one of them any good for the money? Comments, please and thank you.

Leo,

Saw the Mossberg ATR at WalMart several days ago priced at $244 US, I think it was. FWIW, I was definitely underwhelmed. Who knows, maybe some one will get one and it will turn out to be a great rifle for the money. But I believe I will spend mine money on something else! Good luck!

Can't comment on the Mossberg, but I believe the Stevens 200 is the same as the Savage 110 series. If you like the Savage line, you should like the Stevens line. You might check over on Savageshooters.com for more info on the Stevens.

I have seen the Mossberg at Walmart also, and personally, I thought it was worth the money.

I had to be at least as good as a $250.00 rifle at a pawn shop or on the Used rack at some gun shops. Plus it would have a warranty.

I remember not long ago when people were turning their noses up around here at a Howa, when you could buy a varmint barreled one for $350.00.

I'd definitely go with a Mossberg over a Remington 710 any day. I haven't seen the Stevens yet, but I gather they are the Savage 110's minus the Accutrigger. Haven't seen a price tag on one yet. But if you don't like either I am sure you can unload it for $225.00 or so.

Good luck,
cheers and good shooting

cheersJust got through posting about the Stevens mod 200 on the Varmint forum. Of the four I know of all were sub MOA out of the box.Three achieved this with factory ammo. My 22-250 were hand loads.

For my purposes they were great. But than I,m not a sophisticate. For less than $300.00 they are a steal. You heard it here. thumb thumbroger

I'd go with the Stevens. While the stevens is a proven platform (savage 110) several companies
(Raptor and Charter Arms)have tried and failed to sucessfully market the ATR platform.
