In Pa there are a few that are excellent, what you building???

280 remington imp on a Borden action

Borden in Pa, Clarance Hammond in Red Lion Pa, Bob Green in York Pa. Bob Green built me a 280AI and a 338-06AI and the are scarey accurate on Rem actions. Turn around time is incredible and prices are reasonable. Our own Eddie harren would be another great choice in Maryland, near the Pa Border. All mentioned are Benchrest smiths. Eddie and his wife clean up in the hunterclass. Bob had 5 of the top 50 guns in last years super shoot. All get a bunch of press in Precision shooting. These guys are making SOME of the best shooting rifles on the East coast. There are tons of super shit hot smiths that will build you a gun beyond your dreams. IMO it is much better to get face time if possible. Jim Pietghal (sp?) is supposed to also be one of the top smiths in the Country. He builds most of the guns that win the ground hog shoots in Smmerhill/Johnstown area.

Tip Burns in Canyon Lake Texas. Burn Gun Repair. Do a search under Big Bores for some pictures of rifles that Tip has done, not just for me but for others on this forum as well. He has done two for me and is working on a third.

Sorry to hijack. Tip has worked on a few rifles for me but not built one from an action. He did two nice .404s for Rusty.

Burns Gun Repair

He is going to chamber it. It is a Lothar Walther barrel and he is going to put it on an Oberndorf mauser receiver and chamber it in .404 Jeffery. Now that should be a neat rifle!

I knew he had the .404 reamer -- sounds like that one will be very nice. I thought you had a more exotic project going, but I did not get much sleep the night before!

I'll be interested in how he likes the barrel as that is what I have on my 9.3x62 and would consider on another rifle.

Match Grade Arms built my 338WM http://www.mgarmsinc.com/. I love it... They specialize in Ultra lites… but mine is not. It is a real shooter and trouble free. He has lots of barrel & stock selections. He (Kerry O'Day ) has been my gun smith for 15 years or more and he is as honest and competent as the day is long.

Where are you in PA? There's a good one in Mercersburg, by the name of Don Horowitz. He's NOT a new guy, he's been in this business since around 1954! he was invited to join the Custom Gunmaker's Guild on more than one occasion, and declined: "I'm just too damn busy for frivolities!" And he certainly has enough business.

I've only used him for a few jobs, staring in 2001. But amazingly, when you take work to him, he'll give you a completion date, and the work will be ready on that very day!

He does build custom rifles, and I've seen a sample of his engraving ability. If his inlettting, stock shaping, checkering and metal work are as good, I believe a custom rifle from his shop would be excellent.

His tel # is (717)328-9632. He's open every day 9-5 except Monday. Saturday hrs 9-12.

If you live anywhere near Mercersburg, he usually has a rifle or two that he built available for examination....
