I have never used H380 in my 338-06 and don't intend to. I tried some H380 years ago in my 35 Whelen and velocity was 200 fps lower than it should have been according to the manuals. I may have purchased a bad lot, but it soured me enough that I never bought any more. I use H4350 in my gun with 250g pills. Your loads like very stout to me. Do you have a lot of freebore cut in your rifles?

Bradley old Boy; If you want to take what the current crop of reload manuals say, then have at it. And I was just pointing out what my rifle was as I took you questioning me getting 2650 fps with a 250 grain bullet as strictly that, a question. PixieDust is not part of a gunsmithing option in Oregon. Maybe it is in your part of Montana. Hornady's 5th Edition on page 439, for all of you arm chair ballistians, lists a load of 59.4 grains of H 380 for a MV of 2600 fps. It is also the only load on the page with an MV of 2600 fps for a 338/06 with a 250 grain bullet. All other loads are listed at 2500 fps. So in testing, I have a load with 62 grains you tell me that 50 to 75 more fps is ridiculous? Either you haven't been reloading much or you do what mama tells you and nothing else. Nosler's last manual also listed that their best accuracy with the 250 grain partition, was with H 380 powder, in the 338/06. I learned this from testing a lot of powders in my rifle, instead of reading it in a manual. The manuals just verified what my own findings were. So if you want to sling shit, maybe you ough to try testing it yourself so you know what you may or maynot be talking about , instead of criticizing someone else who gets better results than you may get. Besides, 100 fps or so is not going to make a hill of beans worth of difference in the field anyway, so what is the big deal??? Experiment with your loads some and mayb you might find out you are not the EXPERT you think your books tell you are If you think my loads are dangerous DON'T USE THEM. Everyone on here ought to have enough brains to work up a load without have to BE TOLD EVERY TIME. The brain God gave everyone has a memory attached to it, USE IT. It also came with common sense, Use that too. Everybody has to be a critic! seafire

Ski Bum: Are you and Mortie related? both from Michigan, and evidently don't experiment with your loads much. Just noticing the similarities. seafire

Far as I know Mortie is one of the 9 million people in the state that I'm not related to. If by experimenting you mean that I try and make cartridges something they are not then you are correct. More power to you if you want to crank out 200 grain '06 loads at 2850 fps. I'll just be happy I'm no closer to you at the range than the 2000 miles or so that seperate us. Jeff

John you might try shooting one 2 shoot group like suggested before but, shoot one shoot then let it cool all the way down and clean! Then shoot one more at the same target and repeat! Do this three times. This will give you the "first shot group" witch will be smaller then you might think. As with all hunting the first shot is the most importent. This is a good way to know were that first shot is going. P.S. a 22lr will help keep you from being board between shots! Good luck 338vt
