Guys, as soon as the weather dries out here a bit, I'm gonna head to the range with my '57 vintage Model 70 .300 H&H. I'm gonna work up some loads beforehand and was hoping maybe some of you guys might be willing to share some of your pet loads.

Probably stick with 180's, as I think they offer a good balance.

Thanks in advance.

I use a stiff load of old surplus 4831, but you could use H4831 or the SC version...

I prefer the 200 gr. Nosler in the 300 H&H..Most folks that try the 200 on game stick with it..The 180 is fine also, but after years of using the 300 H&H, I have found the 200 gr. Nosler far superior on small or large game.

Like Ray I too shoot the 200 grain bullets (swift A-Frame) in the old Remington 721 .300 H&H.

However the 180 will work marvels too....
80 grains of RL25 and 180 grain bullets will make you sit up and take notice. It's a classic old cartridge well worth it's room in the gun cabinet.

In my '56 M70 I have always used 67-68 grs. of 4350 (old dupont), 180 grain bullet.

Two weeks ago I tried something new: 180 Sierra, 72 grs. of Winchester Mag Rifle (ball powder), and a Win. mag primer. Shot the smallest groups I have ever seen with this rifle.

A review of my reloading notes indicates that my most accurate and fastest 300HH load is 76gr of AA3100 with 180BT for 2983fps. Kudude

I obtained a M721 of similar vintage to your M70 several years ago. The first load I ever shot in it is the only load I've ever used because it tried to shot through one hole with the very first three shot group. It is almost the same load as Kudude lists, a 180 grain bullet over a heavy charge of AA3100 (very similar to H4831). I think my charge weight is slightly less than his, but it's been so long since I've loaded any more of them I really am not sure.

Of course, I only use this for whitetails. If I were hunting larger game, I'd probably opt for the 200 grainers several have suggested.

Both my 700 Classic and 721 like a max load of H-4831SC w/ 180 gr. Nosler Partitions. Gives me right at 3000 fps. in both guns. Like I said though, this is max. Approach with caution.

I shoot a rebarreld M70 and use 200 grn Partitions over 65 grains of RL22. It'll shoot .8MOA all day with that load.
