Hi
i wonder if anyone has tested 3006 factory loadings in carbines with 18 inch barrel?
what would be the velocity in such a short rifle?
ATB
YES

If you haven't got the .30-06 carbine yet, in a word, don't. Your ears will thank you for it, been there. Eeker

That's a rare find, a friend of mine in northern Alberta has one. It's the only one I've personally seen, I think it was built in the early fifties. tu2

I have a Remington 760 Carbine in 270 (not quite what you asked but close). I lose about 400 fps in that rifle with its 18" barrel.

One of the "best mountain man hunters" I ever knew used a Mod. 760, 30-06 18" barrel with nothing but commercial loads. I believe once he used my reloads, but only once. beerroger

I used to have an 18.5" Ruger RLSDZ (ultra-light with sights and laminated stock) and do I ever miss that rifle. Perfect stalking/walking/packing rifle if I ever saw one. HOWEVER, I like my Rem 7600 pump carbine (18" bbl) in 35 Whelen too. Since I handloaded for the 30-06 RLSDZ I did not see any drop in performance over what might be factory velocity.

No I have not chronographed a barrel that short in a 30.06, but I would expect you to be about 300 fps below advertised velocities. YMMV.
