Hi i wonder if anyone has tested 3006 factory loadings in carbines with 18 inch barrel? what would be the velocity in such a short rifle? ATB YES Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

If you haven't got the .30-06 carbine yet, in a word, don't. Your ears will thank you for it, been there.

That's a rare find, a friend of mine in northern Alberta has one. It's the only one I've personally seen, I think it was built in the early fifties.

yes it is called 1950 model and it is really a babe very well balanced and accurate, but i have no scope mount on it any way it is real good for near contact. i have a ruger m77 with scope sight and 22 inch barrel for long range hunting. I have a Remington 760 Carbine in 270 (not quite what you asked but close). I lose about 400 fps in that rifle with its 18" barrel. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

One of the "best mountain man hunters" I ever knew used a Mod. 760, 30-06 18" barrel with nothing but commercial loads. I believe once he used my reloads, but only once. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! I used to have an 18.5" Ruger RLSDZ (ultra-light with sights and laminated stock) and do I ever miss that rifle. Perfect stalking/walking/packing rifle if I ever saw one. HOWEVER, I like my Rem 7600 pump carbine (18" bbl) in 35 Whelen too. Since I handloaded for the 30-06 RLSDZ I did not see any drop in performance over what might be factory velocity.

i am looking for some very nice loads adopted to this short barrel , both for reducing the muzzle flash and better burning and velocity ratio!.just now i am not really in good health and can't develope some loads ATB YE Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

No I have not chronographed a barrel that short in a 30.06, but I would expect you to be about 300 fps below advertised velocities. YMMV.
