Congrats! Looks like a good clean rifle. Do you know what year it was made? Mind if I ask what you paid?

Great rifle, I have had one for some 40 plus years, its a little rougher than yours, no its a lot rouger than yours... I custom stocked in many years ago, the stock now resembles drift wood and its not stainless steel but appears to be because I wore the blue off it years ago..It has been shot to death. But last week I went to the range and shot it, it was still sighted in dead on and the groups measured .399 for 5 shots, the next one .440 for 5, so I put it back in the sack and headed home, it's what I have come to expect. I hope you enjoy your M-70 pre 64 300 H&H as much as I have mine...and keep those 200 or 220 gr. Nosler in mind... Alf: Mine shoots 180 and 200 hand loaded NPs to the same POI @100. I use 65gr of IMR 4350 and I'm getting right at 3k MV. Groups are .5" My particular rifle was built in 1941. Congrats on a great rifle. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Liking an individual cartridge has a lot to do with if the rifle shoots accurately and if you like the rifle. If you really like the rifle despite not being a MOA rifle, you can still entertain it if it works well for you in the field. If your rifle is both accurate and well made you have a winner - my custom-made 300 H&H Mauser rifle is such a rifle and shoot clover groups with Speer bullets - 180 gr Grandslams & 200 gr Spitzer SP. I got these bullets from the USA some 6 years ago. I do not hunt with them though, as I prefer the stronger constructed Rhino 200 gr bullet more on bigger antelope. I hunted last year with 180 gr Federal ammo, loaded with Nosler Partitions and they create a lot of meat damage even at 270 paces (MV = 2,960 fps in my 25-inch barrel). I prefer 200 grainers at 2,650 fps out to 250 yards, as it ensures much better bullet performance at the lower striking velocity. This is about the velocity you obtain with 180 grainers in a 30-06 Spr. I guess I like my 300 H&H so much as it gives good accuracy with any bullet that I have used so far. In fact it is my most accurate rifle. Chris Bekker
